Has anyone visited the government's careers site that they've been talking about? OH and I have both done the multiple choice questions which take five or ten minutes and some of the suggestions were quite odd. One of mine was the construction industry and OH had astronomer in the top three, as well as the job he actually does!

It is quite interesting, a bit of fun if nothing else.  Although with a lot of people perhaps losing their jobs through the pandemic - people might find it worth the effort to find out what else is out there should they have the need to change career paths.

I can see it would be useful, CB, although they don't ask enough about you to match you very closely. To me, the lists look like something a focus group would put together.

John Crace in the Guardian mentions conversations on Twitter about what people who've used the website out of curiosity have been recommended to do. It's in his weekly digest under Thursday.

I'm not so sure it has anything to do with what's 'out there'.  My recommendations were to work as a stunt performer or a museum assistant.  Not entirely convinced these are fields with vacancies either now or going forward.

You are probably right, Hightail.. however, just because those 2 fields are possibly not available right now, they may well be in the future and the stunt performer sounds very interesting !

The stunt 'performer' title is literally a stunt double, the description of the job is 'standing in for actors when the script calls for anything dangerous or difficult on a film or tv set'.  My daughter was advised to 'retrain' as a boxer, I'm sure Eddie Hearn is awaiting her call with eager anticipation.

Whereas it is a bit of fun for those of us who don't need a job I honestly think it's completely disrepectful to the many who are facing a bleak future.
