I would imagine Drivers’ Medical Group at DVLA would usually contact your GP.

Without context (what are you concerned of, and why) I doubt you’ll get focused advice.

Additionally : was this your first ban?

in the context of alcohol addiction ( / dependency) or not?

how over the limit were you?

do you “tick the high risk boxes”?

According to DVLA website if reapplying for your licence after a drink driving ban you have to complete form DR1. This is it

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/832844/dr1-online-confidential-medical-information.pdf

The form asks who your GP is and you sign to give permission for your GP to provide medical information about you to the DVLA Drivers Medical Group.

So I would say they always contact your GP (that's just my opinion. no personal experience).

I this was my first ban,I am positive I will pass the cdt test. I have seen my GP for alcohol issues. I am currently on medication for alcohol. I would say I have misused alcohol in the past. I am happily sober now, have been for many months.
