I opened emails from Amazon on Saturday 4th July that said I'd bought three items with two marketplace sellers, which would cost me a total of over £700. The most I've ever spent is significantly less than £100. I checked my Amazon orders page, and these items were not in there. I checked my bank account which said these items were "pending". So I contacted Amazon and chatted (words, not a call) with 'Miss A'.

She said "i am seeing here the Suspicious transaction and here is what i am going to do. I will submit this Form to our Billing Team so that they can start an Investigation and they are the one who will issue the refund [...] in the next 24-48 ( maximum ) hours you will received an Update regarding this"

I changed my password and subsequently contacted my bank, who said they would issue a new card, and that even though the payments were still pending it had to be Amazon not they who had to sort it out. I also sent a message to both sellers to say that someone was fraudulently buying from my account and not to send anything. Neither replied, even though the items each said they hadn't yet been dispatched.

Monday 6th July. By now the items had been marked "dispatched", and 48 after first contacting Amazon, and having had no reply, I again contacted them via chat and spoke to 'Miss B' who said "I will contact seller forward the complete details and request them to issue full refund. I will forward the issue to our account specialist team that where went wrong about this. And request them to get back to you within 24 hours about this"

I noticed that although there were two separate marketplace sellers, each of my "dispatched" emails had the same seller name (a guy's name, and looking at company check he isn't a director of either company - and neither of the companies appear connected). I also noticed that the items, which have been marked to a family member's address, are being sent via "china post", so something tells me they will be marked as "signed for" but were probably never sent.

Wednesday 8th I again contacted Amazon, and spoke to 'Mr C'. I've actually lost that transcript, but he as good as told me to do my own investigations and then cut me off! Note also that the money has now come out of my account, please help.

do a chargeback with your bank.

it was wrong for them to say there was nothing they can do!!

You've been here since 2013 so you must be aware that we tell people all the time to read our customer services guide and to record their calls. We try to remind people that if they don't record their calls then sooner or later they will regret it.

I think if you do anything more on the telephone you should have read our customer services guide first because then you would have the evidence you need to persuade people that you did take the action that you say you did.
I suspect one of the problems will be managing to establish that you let people know in advance. If there is a delivery which was signed for that you may find that Amazon and also your bank may not be very happy about helping you out.
Although the bank may activate the chargeback, they may later on after a further "investigation" for the money back from you.

Suggest that you send Amazon an SAR.

UPDATE & HAPPY ENDING.

The bank (RBS) told me they would do a chargeback if I had proof from Amazon that I'd been frauded.

I thus harassed Amazon enough so that their 'specialist team' would get their backsides in gear,

eventually I received an email saying I "may" have been Defrauded, and that I needed to contact the bank to tell them of the email - and that the bank would ask me to fill in several forms, which never happened.

I just rang RBS again (yesterday) to tell them of the email, and (surprisingly) they accepted over the phone that I had this Amazon email without even checking. They never asked me to fill in any forms either, and said the money would be back in my account today, which it was. So a big thank you everyone for chipping in.
