Foreign Company UK Insurance for Test Vehicles

Hi all, 

 

I'm writing here regarding obtaining commercial vehicle insurance for a foreign company.

 

The company conducts test drives and operates predominantly overseas. It is currently in the process of setting up a EU entity due to an increase of vehicle testing work in the region.

 

Prior to incorporation, the company wants to conduct on-the-road testing across Europe with client-owned vehicles but is struggling to find insurance.

 

The cars are production models owned by an EU client. They have equipment inside used to record various vehicle variables and insurance would need to cover this also. There would be a variety of different employees driving the cars. Driver negligence cover can be obtained but this isn't comprehensive enough.

 

Does anybody have any suggestions how full cover may be provided for this?

If it is mainly Insurance in Europe, then use a large company such as Allianz or  Axa.

 

Or an international broker such as HDI global, which appears to be headquartered in Germany. They appear to speacialise in tailored insurances particulary commercial.

In which country are the vehicles registered and taxed (ie which country's number plate do they carry)?

The vehicles are registered in an EU27 member. Is there an implication dependent on country of origin (within EU27)?

Your best bet is to approach motor insurers in the country where the vehicles are registered.
