Staff at a Highland hotel have been sacked and made homeless amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The owners of the Coylumbridge Hotel near Aviemore told workers who live at the hotel complex to leave the premises immediately.

They were given a letter, dated 19 March, to say the hotel was "taking the latest government advice" and that staff employment had been terminated.

Brittania Hotels later apologised and blamed an administrative error.

They have well and truly shot themselves in the foot .

They will never get over the bad publicity , social media is saying , boycott the hotel group .

Not sure if true , but Tripadvisor had to suspend reports on the hotel as well due to negative input .

Hotel workers are extremely vulnerable as they tend to be Live in All Found quite often, and the hotel has done itself more harm.  they should have let them stay as hotel is closed anyway, for time being, it would have been the right thing to do.

I just read the same thing about the Scottish highlands turning people in campervans away.

France has asked people in cities not to go away for the weekend and risk infecting people in country areas. They did last weekend and it didn't go down well. Moving around any country isn't a good idea IMHO.

take another viewpoint please....

sorry....but there is no harm at all in people going to Snowdonia, going to holiday homes wherever or coming :!: to the Scottish highlands.....even en-masse.

as long as they keep their personal space and awareness of giving/receiving a remote possibility of cross infection into consideration.

Wish people would calm the F down !

I am sure there will always be people making silly anxiety driven decisions or reacting out of fear, but in the situation the world is in, just allow time/space to think.

There will be people and businesses making decisions which they will come to regret within hours/days.

And don't expect Government announced support to be instantly available . The number of people affected by the current circumstances runs into miilions of people.

Hopefully within the next few weeks the country will be in a better place.

Lockdown is starting to happen anyway. In my local high street, cafes, bars and most shops are now closed until further notice.

A local B&Q was really busy yesterday, with people stocking up with DIY materials as they are expecting to be at home for a few weeks.

So from next week, the UK will be locking down, with only key workers going to work.

The more people move around, the more the virus spreads.

Think they are relying on an orderly voluntary shutdown before taking stern measures restricted shop opening is double edged sword, restocking the shelves will need to be planned, delivery drivers might be in short supply, as many will fall ill, who replaces them?  Volunteer retired HGV drivers with expired entitlements restored for duration, they are also in the at risk groups ,like the retired NHS workers they are asking to come back?  The chain of logistics isn't as simple as many think.

and you omit the most important advice someone says to heighten scare mongering..

as long as they keep their personal space and awareness of giving/receiving a remote possibility of cross infection into consideration.

just like above, you need to listen, read, and understand what experts say in the media….you want the virus to spread in a controlled manner then immunity in the population will reach levels whereby the virus will cease to be a viable threat. else it will return again and again.

Your second paragraph invalidates the first. You can't have it both ways I'm afraid

You mean herd immunity. When you say it's '' what experts say in the media'' who do you actually mean?

The health Minister has said it's not Government policy and the World Health Organisation has called it into question.

It seems to me that the science on this virus is uncertain.  It is best guesses on how this will play out, based on the evidence that is currently available.

There's another aspect of whether people who've had the virus once are actually immune. I haven't seen anything definite on this yet.

Well quite, that's one of the reasons why not a single government in the world has adopted herd ''immunity'' as a policy.
