Newlyns & CTAX - turned up at my old C/O address owned by Daughter. what can they do?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I lost my job and was made homeless in 2018 and had to sign on to benefits.

I had to give an address

I gave a C/O my daughter's address.

Recently my daughter has been receiving letters from Newlyns regarding my council tax debts.

She rang me this morning in distress as a debt collector turned up on her door and said he was going to take goods.

She explained that I have never lived at her address and even invited him in to check.

She warned him that they were self-isolating for 2 weeks.

He gave her a letter with their phone number on and told her to tell me to call them.

Will they still harass her even though she rang them a few weeks ago and told them I have never lived there and this chap visited and was told the same?

I no longer claim benefits and am still technically homeless.

simply tell your daughter to tell them you are not and never have been resident there.

as she has, then ignore them.

there is no right of forced entry on CTAX debts anyway and all the other threats are just that. threats with no power behind them at all.

if you wish, contact the relevant council that has the liability order the bailiffs are trying to levy upon and tell them of your situation.

are you aware when the LO was gained by the council concerned?

As soon as you provide details of your current situation to the Council owed the debt, they should put the matter on hold.

I think there is a way of asking a Council to consider writing off a debt, if you have been homeless for a period.  Might be worth speaking to a homeless or housing charity such as Shelter Housing.

We could do with some help from you.
