Miscarriages of justice under coronavirus laws ‘going unchallenged’ as court hearings bypassed

"Thousands of charges for allegedly breaching lockdown restrictions and rules around gatherings have been processed under the Single Justice Procedure, which sees one magistrate decide cases based largely on police evidence."

"According to Ministry of Justice figures, 4,400 defendants were prosecuted and 3,500 convicted for offences relating to Covid-19 in 2020."

"The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) reviewed all 1,800 coronavirus cases that were heard in open court between March 2020 and March 2021.

It found that all charges under the Coronavirus Act and one in five under the Health Protection Regulations were wrong."

and more fleecing of the NHS and the British taxpayer by Tory chronies who repeatedly do the same again and again:

ie like charging for monitoring dead and gone abroad payrollees

Workers on the NHS test-and-trace operation who are being paid £9.50 an hour were charged out to the government’s supplier, Serco, at as much as £21.50 an hour, the Guardian understands.

Phil Booth sets out how people can protect their privacy following NHS Digital’s announcement that patients’ GP data will be shared

just contacted my surgery and asked them to confirm I was opted out

They said i never had been

She started explaining that they would never share my info ... I stopped her there and said, I dont doubr that - but handcock and PHE will after they've scraped it

- she clearly thought I was mistaken ...

I said I know it sounds conspiracy, but you clearly need to check yourself.

I explained that I had opted out years ago - she started explaining that if I did and needed referrals, they wouldn't be able to access my  GP info .. at which point I stopped her and said - yes - I had that explained to me before when I requested opt out which you say was never actioned..

She couldn't find - I stopped her again and said opt out please- she said ok - I'll check again next week

ie the real NHS

We need millions to opt out like last time. .. or apparently not in my case despite requesting it

Jolyon Maugham has a new Twitter thread about the court case against HMG.

Ayanda/Prospermills is connected to Andrew Mills, adviser to Liz Truss. It was only worth £100 when it was awarded £252m for buying PPE, under the rules that mean there is no need for scrutiny. So far, none of the PPE seems to be suitable for the NHS.

The thread also has a lot of the court documents, plus copy letters from the government/DHSC.

yep

and lets not forget the RAF hercules flying over to Turkey for PPE that hadn't been ordered, sat around in Turkey while the Turkish sorted 'something' to put on the plane, and it came back with a few bits of unusable inappropriate stuff at a massive markup wasn't it?

and lets NEVER forget that the entire flight was a con to cover up that Johnson and Handcocks cronies had delivered squat, and the regular PPE suppliers were stating their offers had been rejected so they had sold their stuff to the EU rather than go bust

Turkey quite clearly stated that they knew nowt about any order.

THE BULLY-INTO CLUB:

The lockdown sceptics on the Tory backbenches fear Boris Johnson is being bullied into delaying the lifting of lockdown on 21 June. Prof Ravi Gupta (a Nervtag member) suggested a delay of “at least a few weeks” would be wise, while Prof Adam Finn (an adviser on the JCVI group) said lifting of final restrictions on 21 June “may be a bad decision”.

Former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith fumed: “We listen to scientists far too much at the moment. They seem … to be bullying the government.”

It's a difficult decision.  The data for my area doesn't show hospitalisations rising, I am that saddo who checks daily.  Case rates may, though they aren't yet (inmy area) but surely case rates aren't important if people aren't getting seriously ill.  Medical professional on the radio yesterday was saying that hospitalisations more recently were the younger (not yet vaccinated) age groups and generally required much less intensive care.  At some point we are going to have to accept Covid is here to stay, just like flu, and there will be an annual death toll, just like flu.

I agree, hightail, it's hospitalisations that are more relevant and we don't know how that will turn out. I was reading earlier that it takes a few weeks for infections to turn into hospitalisations and then sadly, deaths.

With the Delta variant being so new, it's hard to know what might happen.

one of the biggest issues with covid has always been - how many people are infected and spreading while showing little if any symptoms (or are hiding them as they cant afford to isolate)

.. even more so now many are vaccinated - which although reducing the incidence of serious symptoms,

- also by definition masks infection.

and spread/transmission = mutations.

add to that that Johnson allowed flights to and from India to continue - just like he did from China

- except with no even half way valid excuse this time.

It seems to be travel causing problems pretty much every time, doesn't it?

I read an article the other day that said over 1.5 million people flew into the UK in the first four months of this year.  It's never clear how well quarantine is monitored unless people are put in hotels by the government and people can still use public transport to get to their final destination in the UK, as I understand it.

Seems Portugal is to lose its green list status and other countries are going from amber to red.  All of this done as usual with a notice period to ensure as many travellers as possible are given the chance to come into the country in a short time without enduring enhanced restrictions.  Either somewhere does deserve red status or it doesn't and if it does why don't we announce it and immediately restrict access rather than encourage it?
