Regarding the EU O/AZ tiff

.. interesting that O/AZ will release a phrase, without context, but not even the paragraph - let alone the whole agreement that the EU is quite happy to be released

If O/AZ agreed to a delivery deal to get funding even if only based of their finance sheets showing 10's of millions of confirmed orders,

then suddenly say that they will deliver as few as 31 million doses of an expected 100-120 million by March when the UK has NOT only no impact to their deliveries whatsoever - but actually seem to be getting far more than the UK had 'declared - then that's arguably fraud.

 

The date the agreement was signed is actually irrelevant. As Likely is whether or not doses were shipped from EU plants to the UK or the other way - UNLESS it reduces what would be available to supply according to agreement to one customer to the benefit of supplying to another.

 

 

also interesting that there are 'Teething problems with none UK production facilities, despite not only:

* any such teething problems already apparently having been resolved in the UK production facilities (what - they cant apply lessons learned either - how Johnsonesque). they have arguable had LONGER to resolve the EU plant issues.

* Lets not forget part of the allegations are that those EU plants with 'teething' problems have already been supplying the UK.

 

Now I can accept that the UK fast 'fast tracked' the O/AZ and phiser emergency use approvals and even given the short cuts and munging I wouldn't argue strongly against it

and as I already stated, I wouldn't be overly concerned about up to a MAX of 12 weeks before 2nd dose (o/h is currently scheduled at about 8 weeks for second dose) - although it IS more concerning the further beyond 6 weeks it gets.

Then there is the situation where someone having had both jabs testy positive as Whitty said being jabbed still might not stop someone catching or spreading the virus.  So they have to self isolate as well. or will the Covid Passport allow them to avoid testing and spread it if they have it?   Its becoming very Franz kafka.

Current AZ could be as low as 30-50% effective against new variants for whole ranges of people, luckily NHS staff mostly pfiser

Summary

Mainly affects females under 'a certain age'

UK did older first and NHS staff (with many possible sufferers) largely got the pfiser jab

 

-  when you think that the 'UK approval' O/AZ tests mainly were among younger people - albeit in small and possibly quite selected quantities

 

Made me really wince as I had convinced my daughter to get the o?AZ jab as only one likely to be available for months

 

Seriously considering cancelling my second O/AZ jab as I have a considered opinion it wont be of much benefit and may exclude me from getting a proper one.

Was it the Mail or the Express that was saying pretty recently that Europe is just jealous of British success with AZ when they were worried about blood clot problems? In any case, AZ is Anglo-Swedish.

 

I forget if I posted this before about the spat between the UK and the EU over vaccines. The UK has made enough vaccines to jab 10-18% of the population, with the rest from India and a huge number from the EU. Interesting take on the contracts too and how AZ seems to have promised too much to too many people.

At 30 million vaccinated claim timepoint UK had got:

* 21 million doses (various manufacturers) from EU that the EU know about

* 5 million (o/AZ) from India (not sure if these were 'finished/bottled in India, EU or UK)

and apparently around 8-12 million manufactured in UK ... maybe

Unknown number stored for second doses ... almost certainly a lot less than needed

 

I'm quite convinced that the Uk expected to continue to get all the O/AZ vaccine doses + pfiser from EU while sending nowt

.. and are now looking to Russia and China

We are navigating unchartered territory really, as the effective score of vaccines have been based on varying sample sizes and also based on samples taken in different countries with different covid-19 variants.  So it is difficult to compare vaccines.  And also we don't have much information on actual side effects caused by all of the different vaccines.  There have been deaths linked to several of the vaccines.

 

At one of the recent Covid-19 daily briefings,  Chis Whitty and Patrick Vallance were asked about the requirement to have regular booster jabs.  The answer given was at the moment, there is not enough data to confirm how long vaccines would provide a good level of protection for.  At the moment, NHS is planning for booster jabs to start from September 2021 for those given first vaccine in January 2021.

That would be 'Not The NHS' - NTNHS and based on wished-for/projected availability of some sort of vaccines + Johnson waffle NOT expected/projected and planned for need

 

I think it crucial that we keep those distinctions in mind.

Despite the those horrible UK hating EU catching onto us rightly grabbing all the vaccines, and them not listening to us saying that stopping us using EU funded facilities to manufacture the mainly EU and US funded Oxford vaccine for shipping just to us would be bad. as no one nation (us - England) can do this alone, we will meet my promises just as we always haven't and no populist chums private profit will be left un-boosted in those aims

 

By September we will have made enough doses of the vaccine to start vaccinating again against the variant which is currently being replaced by new variants. and should it ever become needed, you can be sure we will give billions to our pals in the search for a modified vaccine to be made within the coming months and years to beat those horrible foreign Kent, Bristol and Liverpool variants.

See you next week as I'm off now off to my dads villa in the EU to get a pfiser shot. This is of course absolutely essential travel.

Breaking Rumours

 

The Uk approached India to complain about the O/AZ vaccines Johnson intended for the UK being withheld, and some Poonawalla source responded that the contact agreed with AZ very clearly gave preference to local need..

 

Some right Johnson was apparently furious that someone would include clauses which gave others preference  .. and argued that 'local' meant local to him

 

The Indian company rushed to assure Johnson that if their new I billion dose a facility completed on time (a first in  India or the UK) sometime in 2022, they would fullfill all shortfalls outstanding at that time for the current vaccine.
