Johnson claims his capacity for lying has reached 500,000 lies a day,

but I think he's lying

I had worked out a rough formula for calculating actual throughput ((claim - 40,000)/2) - which repeatedly checked out as in the higher end of the actual ballpark when figures did become available - pretty consistent for quite some time.

(the 40,000 was antigen/antibody tests - the div 2 was every 'person' test claimed twice as a nasal and a throat swab test)

but Johnson and Handcock seem to have added loads of extra 'ghost tests in - probably all the new 'available' tests - being tested, plus possibly some swabs (already claimed twice) that are antigen tested making it 3 for 1.

some ons stats from a over a week ago - the 'latest' available with some reputable support - its undoubtedly far worse now.

The provisional number of deaths registered in England and Wales in the week ending 23 October 2020 (Week 43) was 10,739.

This was 205 more than previous week and 980 (a little short of 10%) more than the five-year average for Week 43

Of the 10,739 deaths registered in Week 42,

978 mention #COVID19 on the death certificate (9.1% of all deaths).

of the 978 deaths stated as involving #COVID19,

89.4% had this recorded as the underlying cause of death

of the 1,719 deaths involving influenza and pneumonia, 17.6% had these as the underlying cause of death

So although there were twice as many deaths stated as involving influenza AND pneumonia (which can be a symptom of MANY issues)

Covid is 4 and a half times more likely to be an underlying cause of death in those affected than influenza and pneumonia combined

Around 94% of all excess deaths are directly attributable to Covid, and the other 6% of excess deaths are undoubtedly related to Covid (as in operations and care reductions)

and Covid, still outside of its probably months long peak is already resulting in around 10% excess deaths.

Stephen Reicher is a psychologist and part of Indie Sage. He's written an article about why lockdown is more likely to hold if people are supported financially, practically and mentally.

He's against hitting people with huge fines, which seems to be the preferred approach of No10.

First response of a Police State, impose the Stick before the carrot, plus the Treasury needs the Fine money.  Sorry just being cynical, as how say an 18 year old student can afford a £10,000 fine is beyond me or a family holding a wake .

Starners on the spot now with the potential for a Tory rebellion some for good reasons some not..

Will Starmer support the needed lockdown which Johnsom appears to be presenting along with some pretty unsavoury 'tag ons' or will he manage to have it amended?

Note

Haven't  read the full proposal, but some of the things reported as allegedly included, along with exemptions and contradictions seem to be issues that will come back and haunt Starmer if he just supports as is.

Apparently my nearest major Hospital in Bristol has more patients  currently admitted due to Covid, than they had earlier in the year.  And they have cancelled people visiting all patients.

My instinct is that the 4 week lockdown will prove not to be adequate and it will be extended by at least 2 weeks.  If you have Schools and Colleges still open, the virus is still being spread, plus many people are ignoring the lockdown holding social gatherings in their houses.

Hospitals same here in the east mids

'news' Reports that hospitals may run out of beds by mid - 3rd quarter December seem to have been significantly UNDER estimated

I think that is the real driver behind the lockdown - The sheer scope of Johnsons ineptitude would be starkly on display

Seems to clearly show the pandemic is already exceeding the prior peak.

and still they are shipping covid cases into hospitals rather than specialised nightingales - which seem to be rapidly showing to be fake hospitals for headlines

Johnsons version of Churchills' Operation fortitude eh?

They've never had enough staff for the Nightingales, have they? I wonder who dreamed that one up without thinking it through.

Maybe part of the answer to my own question is that of course a 'bed' in a hospital isn't just the piece of furniture, it needs a team to look after the patient. I truly wonder if some in government haven't grasped this yet.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that the team to take care of a patient is meant to be supplied by the hospital or trust (or whatever) the patient is referred from.  This is maybe why they never were used that much.  What hospital is going to give up staff?

Link to post

I read that too. Youre right, of course a hospital isn't going to give up a team to send them with one patient when they could look after more than one, I'd have thought.

It's a shame whoever came up with the Nightingale wheeze didn't think of that...

There comes a point where even the most law abiding, rule following types can't be bothered with it all any more.  I was non-compliant last time round in that I would walk my dog in the morning and go for a 5k run in the afternoon/evening when it was clearly stated I should only go out once.  Never saw another soul on either excursion but suddenly I was a master criminal.

Nightingales were presented as being 'temporary large-scale critical care hospitals providing cover for the expected increase in patients

A 'critical care barn' (sic) - not as extra bed space or as 'waiting rooms for other patients.

there were supposed to be around 100,000 recruited to staff them  .. undoubtedly by the private sector,

as well as by asset stripping the already exhausted staff from main hospitals and expecting them all to do even more - most for a real world drop in salary year on year for the last 10 years and ongoing.

Haven't looked but the private sector will have undoubtedly been paid to not do that.

https://www.nursingtimes.net/news/coronavirus/revival-of-nightingale-hospitals-prompts-nurse-staffing-warnings-12-10-2020/

https://metro.co.uk/2020/10/09/are-the-nightingale-hospitals-being-used-how-many-built-13395246/

"Estephanie Dunn, regional director of the Royal College of Nursing in the North West, questioned how the Manchester Nightingale would be staffed, given that the region went into pandemic with 4,800 nursing vacancies across the NHS and nurses were “running on empty” following the first wave."

Hospitals across the UK have been seeing a 3-7 fold increase in covid admissions in the past 2 weeks. A far higher increase rate than stated.

3x in outlying areas, 7x+ in the centers of spread

and of course, dont forget that if you come into contact with someone who tests positive you MUST self-isolate and stay at home - no exceptions ... except if you are a populist politician

In which case you can fly abroad, meet foreign dignitaries, meet the royals, go where you like, do what you like

- although of course everyone else you come into contact with must isolate ..

Does anyone think they are properly using this lockdown to sort out test and trace?  We never seem to get a grip on anything before Boris is touting something else as the magic bullet. Testing everyone in Liverpool multiple times makes not one jot of difference to me at the other end of the country.

I don't get that, UB. Why?

My guess is that the company administering the system, also has ability to cross check names/addresses to credit files, so they have chosen that option, to ensure ID is verified, for any follow up action e.g. isolation requirement following positive test.

Given this is a public health crisis, not sure on the merits of this approach.
