Handcock explains the latest dictates

'We are seeing far too may people requesting tests, 3-4 times our claimed capacity for tests, which means only 1 in 10 of those who think they need a tests can get a test

so tests must NOT be wasted on on people like children and teachers who have homes and families to go to each day let alone food market workers who meet dozens or hundreds of the public each day

and although the vast majority of people are not only obeying prior rules from yesterday, the day before that, the day before that, the morning before that (rare) and the evening before that x2 (most common) - going back through the daily, and sometimes multiple per evening edicts over the last month or two,

there are still a few who entirely unreasonably think its OK to:

* Go back into your crowded place of work while infected

* Travel across the country whether to second homes or beauty spots

* Play loud ABBA music over 85 decibels, especially dancing queen

- Such people clearly and obviously must be immediately punished with at least a large fine and support and those who abuse the nation by doing any of the above more than once should clearly get exponentially increasing fines as any reasonable person would understand .

Where do people get the idea these are reasonable or moral things to do? he quipped.

I had a similar thought, TJ. The Guardian has done an explainer of the rules as of yesterday.

Someone said that if the government, had retained public trust, they might not have needed stringent measures like this.

More evidence that Handcock and co' cks are manipulating figures by approx x4

We have already seen that Hancock  & Johnson claims of 240,000 - 300,000 tests daily actually equate to only around 60-80,000 people tested daily

Heres a report on the latest actual situation at care homes with 4% outbreaks reported by HC-On and 1% reported by PHE/Handcock.

Care home coronavirus outbreaks cast doubt on official PHE data

Exclusive: Largest provider says 70 of its homes have had outbreaks, with 20 in the last fortnight

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/sep/30/care-home-coronavirus-outbreaks-cast-doubt-on-official-phe-data

"In one week in September, HC-One recorded new outbreaks in a dozen homes – equivalent to 4% of its facilities. By contrast, PHE recorded new outbreaks over the same period at just 1% of all homes. Outbreaks are defined as two or more people at a home testing positive, including staff."

and testing at care homes:

"HC-One said that between 19 and 25 September, tests of more than 1,000 staff at 12 of its homes took more than a week to come back. It means the results are close to useless because after seven days the workers are due to be tested again. More than 700 of the tests carried out that week were also returned void, the chain said."

And in Wales Second home owners and Tourists can drive 50 miles through locked down counties while locals are confined to barracks.  Gething in Wales is as useless as hancock in England.  Of couse they

can't ban travel through Anglesey and up the A55 to England or the Port of Holyhead a vital ferry link with Ireland would have to close as trucks couldn't move.

They are not sure if someone in Conwy with a hospital appointment in Wrexham would be allowed to travel to it as if its non urgent might fall foul of the reasonable excuse clause.

I see Johnson snr is still up to his antics

Stanley Johnson shops without face mask as PM vows flouters will be fined

"Speaking to the Mirror, Mr Johnson Sr said he may not be "100 per cent up to speed" with current rules as he had just returned to England after three weeks abroad."

“The fact this was my first day back in the UK after three weeks abroad is, I am sure, no excuse for not knowing the rules.”"

""Face coverings have been compulsory for customers in shops and people travelling on public transport since 24 July.

""Bear in mind that the fines are now very considerable and they will be imposed,"  Johnson 'The Liar' jnr said.

So Johnson snr just returned from 3 weeks abroad and isnt in a 14 day self isolation lockdown eh?

Wonder if he stayed at a country that isnt on the self-isolation list ... or just came back through one again?

"He recently enjoyed a trip to his Greek villa in July on a trip he called 'essential travel'"

I know a number of people who genuinely suffer from asthma or severe hay fever (the injections do seem to help I've seen) some who wear glasses

- ALL of whom, except one, have been wearing masks at shops etc for longer than its been a 'requirement'.

Almost Every person (some were just clearly @holes) I have seen claiming they have asthma as an excuse for not wearing a mask really do need to look at managing their weight as a first port of call for their breathlessness - as do we all.

So, why is Starmer NOT pressing Johnson and Handcock on the blatantly 'misleading' claims of capacity?

The evidence on the lies is overwhelming and a disgrace AND DANGER to the nation, with even thousands of teachers awaiting tests

https://www.theguardian.com/education/2020/sep/27/class-sizes-in-uk-may-rise-to-60-as-schools-struggle-to-cover-for-self-isolating-teachers

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/coronavirus-uk-test-and-trace-lab-swab-void-germany-italy-b434394.html

"According to the leaked data for 9 September, laboratories with a total capacity of 162,000 processed 134,576 results and had a total backlog of 185,000 tests."

- Although as we have already seen, those 134,000 'results' from 162,000 'processed' IS only around 83,000 actual people tested.

"The sites included labs run by Randox, the private company awarded a £133m testing contract in march, Eurofins, which operates in Germany and Luxembourg, and Immensa, based in Italy."

- Oh dear Brexiters

"However while the labs on mainland Europe successfully processed 100 per cent of results within 24 hours,

Randox only processed 9.4 per cent in that time.

Labs in Manchester also struggled to meet the target, with rates of 3.1 per cent in Manchester,

13.4 per cent in Milton Keynes

and 38.1 per cent in Glasgow."

- Oh dear UK private sector testing

Interestingly, when you correct the data from UK tests 'carried out (which seems to be the case - if its 'capacity claimed - half again)

- to number of people tested once or more - that would put us currently since the recent 30% boost in tests (thanks to efficient EU labs it would seem) at around 190,000 'people tests' per million capita total so far in 6 months+

some of course have been tested more than once

eg tests were lost/spoilt, regular test regimes, multiple infection fears etc

Does anyone have a figure for how many actual different people have been tested AND HAD A RESULT in the UK? let alone vs tests claimed as carried out ...

How utterly shabby is the UK's monitoring and reporting if that figure isn't readily, clearly and unambiguously available?

Starmer

'Given the devasting impacts to our nations health and wellbing of the Coronavirus - can the decidedly right 'honourable gentleman opposite tell us how many actual UK citizens have been tested, how many of those individuals have been tested more than once, how many actually received a result and how those figures relate the governments claims of 'capacity'?

Perhaps start with the first 4 weeks of Septembers' figures which should be readily available to any competent person properly managing such a rapidly evolving national epidemic.

Johnson

We are testing more than anyone else and have a world beating test system and will soon be increasing our capacity to a million a day or more.

[Johnson sits down]

{pause at the end of which the speaker calls on Starmer}

Starmer

Sorry Mr Speaker, I'm still waiting for a meaningful and honest reply to my quite straightforward and specific questions.

Surely the right 'honorable  gentlemen opposite has these figures to deliver to the British people as any competent and honest person managing such a dire and crucial national situation should

- unless he wishes to claim he doesn't know the answers - in which case I'll ask him again next week.

[sits down]

From the Independent news feed

"Hancock defends firm flogging test and trace package

Is it right for private firms to profit from coronavirus contact-tracing? Health secretary Matt Hancock has defended Deloitte after the company was accused of profiteering for “marketing” contact tracing data services to local public health teams.

Labour said it was an “utter scandal” – insisting any information the firm has should be being provided free to local authorities. But Hancock claimed there was nothing wrong.

“Deloitte have done an incredible job in helping us to put together the contact tracing and the backward contact tracing that we have, and of course they should offer their services to local co"

So lets see, this is part of Handcocks trace a test system that is performing so abysmally, offering to sell its services (and more importantly - the information its gained through being paid to do by the UK taxpayer) - to the better performing local test and trace

Well for starters the info belongs to the UK people, NOT deloitte, and who the heck wants local test and trace dragged down to Handcocks trace a test standards?

"31,373 people tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) for the first time in England between 17 September and 23 September, a 61% increase compared to the previous week,” it said in its weekly report."

Consider that in the light of the quite clear reports of only 25-33% of people requesting tests actually getting them, which implies in excess of 100,000 people a week being infected as a conservative (sic) estimate for more than a week ago.

Flu jabs now rare as rocking horse moonsh*t aren't they

Just been looking at figures of tests and infections again given whitty claim that it isn't as bad at the moment as there were probably around 100,000 infections a day during the peak of the early days ...

I dispute his claim. That would seem to easily be the actual infection rate at the moment

Breakdown:

* dodo said demand for tests 3-4 x capacity - 'capacity claimed as 300,000 a day although dodo said 240,000

* Real 'capacity at that time or just after has been stated (with Euro labs included) as 160,000 a day

* actual people tested a day at that time  or after was about 80,000 up from 60,000 a few weeks before

* people testing positive from actual tests are running at 6-7,000 a day up from around 5,000 a day when 60,000 people were being tested a day

So

* 6-7,000 positive tests a day of around 80,000 tested - about 8% infection rate among those requesting tests who GOT tested (similar to the 5k/60k figures)

* From dodo's statement - around a million people a day requesting tests at that time 3-4 x 'capacity

- more than 10x those being tested were/are NOT getting tests

Those statements and figures clearly support a figure of (10x 6-7,000) 60-70,000 people infected a day JUST among those seeking a test

add to that a smaller figure (far smaller than whittys estimated amounts) from the rest of the population who are asymptomatic or are avoiding lockdown ...

Easily 100,000 infections a day.

The view form the other side (of the Atlantic)

Britain, operating without adult supervision

Coronavirus cases in Britain are rising rapidly, with a record 12,871 new cases reported on Saturday evening. But as our correspondent Peter Goodman writes, you would scarcely imagine it on the streets of London, where masks hang below chins, punters cluster in pubs and cafes and rules around mask wearing or social distancing are frequently ignored.
Beyond the obvious ways that this cavalier behavior is disconcerting, it has enhanced a widely shared sense that Britain — famously rule-abiding — is now operating without adult supervision. Public confidence has plummeted, with more than half of respondents in a recent survey declaring the government has botched its handling of the pandemic, up from 39 percent in May.

The current crisis seems exacerbated by an offshoot of the very virtue celebrated in Britain’s conventional historical narrative — an admirable refusal to bend.

The Mail have got hold of an advance copy of Amnesty's report due out shortly. It's damning about how care home residents were treated by HMG.

  • EXCLUSIVE: UK Government's pandemic policies 'violated the fundamental human rights of vulnerable older people in care', Amnesty report claims
  • Measures exposed elderly residents to Covid then blocked them from care
  • Ministers 'know from the outset' that the virus posed 'exceptional danger' to 400,000 residents of UK care homes, many of whom are vulnerable
  • Care home residents were subjected to 'inhuman and degrading' treatment
  • Report says UK Government is 'directly responsible' for the care home tragedy

I haven't got to grips with the 'technical glitch' that held up test reporting - what went on there?

John Ashton or someone on his Twitter feed was saying that the delay means 15,000 people haven't been traced and advised to self-isolate if they need to, so could have spread the virus further.
