Now HMG has stopped doing weekday briefings, Independent SAGE has decided to do its own weekly briefing on Covid-19. They're very worried about the way lockdown is being done and are talking about a further 30,000 deaths if things don't change.

They say this about the government's message. “They are sending a message that the pandemic is over – and it’s not over.”

BN, I wonder if this is an aftermath of making hospitals treat Covid patients and leaving the Nightingale hospitals almost empty?

Or that the Nightingales didn't have enough staff to look after seriously ill patients.

The FT boffins have started a new Twitter thread about large under-reporting of new Covid cases. If you read down, it's been highlighted by the problems in Leicester.

and the recent reporting that

"UK deaths fall below five-year average for first time in 14 weeks"

- despite the ongoing issues and fresh peaks in cases being reported (like Leicester)

Simply highlight that the reporting and tracking of deaths is fiddled.

https://www.newscientist.com/article/2237475-covid-19-news-uk-deaths-fall-below-five-year-average/

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/bulletins/deathsregisteredweeklyinenglandandwalesprovisional/weekending19june2020

"The number of deaths registered in England and Wales in the week ending 19 June 2020 (Week 25) was 9,339, this was 637 lower than Week 24.

In Week 25, the number of deaths registered was 0.7% below the five-year average (65 deaths fewer), this is the first time weekly deaths have been below the five-year average since Week 11; the number of deaths in care homes and hospitals were also fewer than the five-year average (49 and 782 deaths lower respectively), while the number of deaths at home was 827 higher than the five-year average.

Of the deaths registered in Week 25, 783 mentioned "novel coronavirus (COVID-19)", the lowest number of deaths involving COVID-19 in the last 12 weeks; accounting for 8.4% of all deaths in England and Wales."

- as these are the official stats - they clearly show that almost 10% of of these 'less than 5 year average' deaths were still CONFIRMED/TESTED COVID related deaths

The 5 year average is higher than what would be expected as the year on year deaths had largely be showing a downward trend

(apart from some intermittent seasonal flu related peaks which is NOT indicated as being the case during the Covid outbreak)

Europe: 191 411 deaths; the five countries reporting most deaths are United Kingdom (43 575), Italy (34 744), France (29 813), Spain (28 346) and Belgium (9 747).

The EU is going to see a significant improvement in its average COVID situation stats in January isn't it?

All ready for your all American Kentucky Fried Covid pork and chicken,

all with a hint of Chlorine sauce dip?

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/jul/01/revealed-covid-19-outbreaks-meat-processing-plants-north-carolina

"Testing has found positive cases at North Carolina facilities, but officials refuse to release the information"

"Health departments in rural parts of the state, areas that often lean on large meatpacking or food processing facilities as primary sources of employment, have so far been tight-lipped about Covid-19 outbreaks in those plants."

"As of Thursday, there were 2,772 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in 28 meat processing plant “clusters” around the state, the department said, but would not specify further."

"In late April, while outbreaks began emerging at meat processing plants across the country, Donald Trump signed an executive order forcing the facilities to remain open."

Not clear on who introduced it, but the poor hygene/distancing/ppe is spreading it in the humans

... and the animals

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/jun/30/ban-burning-and-burying-of-animals-in-us-covid-19-farm-culls-ngos-urge

The issue with the american processing plants is the secrecy surrounding the outbreaks and actually what is being done with both the human and animal infected.

The humans have allegedly been forced to work

and there is little clarity on what is happening to contaminated animals

with Trump signing executive orders to make them stay open ...

Note that although the 'culling' methods described in the article are truely horrible, and a number if not most of the methods of killing the animals blight/poison  the environment, the primary focus of my post is to alert that there is NOT proper oversight to ensure that infected animal are not sold on for consumption or anything else, let alone the environment that the workers are in with the disease spreading.

“Right now, one analyst says 2.1 million hogs have ‘disappeared,’” Grooms said. “We know those all weren’t euthanised, because we heard countless stories from across the US where pork producers were working on innovative ways to keep pigs in the food supply, including donations to food banks and private sales to individuals "

prosecutions under new Coronavirus Act unlawful, review finds

Vast majority of charges under separate Health Protection Regulations were correct, CPS says

Interesting how the covid emergency powers have been misused to penalise people where the laws were defined as only intended to direct people who were 'suspected' of having coronavirus, or being near someone who was (possibly) infected ...

aka everyone ... to a place to be tested

... at the instruction of an appropriate  medical person

... and being a met copper or Transport police not liking someone allegedly 'loitering' (whatever that is COVID wise) between platforms simple doesn't wash

interesting that a magistrate declared the person guilty of a non-existent crime and will presumably will suffer nothing despite that, let alone be quietly 'retired

Bet the TV licensing goons love that magistrate.

Yer oner (says some goon written note) - This person has committed the crime of not letting us enter his home when he has no TV licence in addition of the crime of not having a TV licence.

'Guilty as charged' says he.

Interesting that in one of the articles (not sure if its one of those linked) a poignant point is made:

There is only one person we KNOW that has been traipsing around the country while infected with Covid ... Yet the law HASN'T been applied to him.

Re the meat processing plant virus outbreaks, think I have read that the virus likes a cooler temperature range.  Which may be why some scientists have predicted that northern hemisphere countries may see a second wave in the Autumn.

Hopefully this won't happen as I think enough damage has already been done and I dread to  think of the consequences of further national lock downs.

I can't believe they're opening pubs again on a Saturday - and from 6am! What are they expecting to happen, are we back to herd immunity?

There are about 45,000 pubs in England employing many times that number. The pub industry is already on it's knees, they need a break.
