Correct.

And don't just clean your hands, you have to wash up to your elbows.

wrong (unless of course you are using your elbows to eat with, or using them to touch your face..... but that’s pretty tricky)

Or, if you are scrubbing up in operating theatre, then yes, to elbows

Spend the 20 seconds washing your hands.

if you wash up to your elbows you might be wasting 10 of those 20 seconds on upper forearms that don’t matter.

The washing up to your elbows advice was given by a Doctor on a TV local news programme, as best practice.  Was not explained, why this was required.

We could do with some help from you.

Tired of hearing this now

I've got a headache, cough, aching joints and am constantly tired and I keep getting people turning around when I cough and telling me I shouldn't be out

Had a slight cough for a couple of weeks so it's not a good chance its related (although it has got worse)

The acheing joints is due to sleeping on the floor (have to be in living room to help wife sleeping on sofa with fractured knee)

And the headache and tiredness is just down to dealing with 3 hyperactive kids all day

Only good thing is work is talking about arranging work from home

Apparently, according to some psychologists, the reason people are stocking up with toilet rolls is not just in case they are self isolated for 14 days so don't want to risk not having any, but because they are seen as large comforting packages i.e. The size of a packet of toilet roles and the softness, is a comfort against the anxiety they are feeling.

If you believe in such psychology !  I suppose it could make sense.

IMHO, they should return Nadine Dorries to Parliament and lock all of the MPs inside.. Food and booze can be delivered to them there.  If they are so confident that the herd mentality will resolve the problem.. then perhaps it might make them consider what their constituents are likely to be facing.

More misquoting going on here.

He didn't say the measures such as closing schools doesn't work, he said it's what scientists had told him.

You've also selectively misquoted what he said about taking it on the chin. Here's the full version as reported by the Beeb including the bits you edited out:

"One of the theories is perhaps you could take it on the chin, take it all in one go and allow the disease to move through the population without really taking as many draconian measures. I think we need to strike a balance."

They've done tens of thousands of tests and only around one thousand were positive.  All those negatives were only valid for that moment, same people could test positive a few days later or may have had the diease previously so I'm not sure they tell us anything useful.

I don't have time to look up the detail right now, but from what I've read they have ignored a lot of the WHO's advice and don't seem inclined to 'test, test, test' as the WHO said today, I think it was.

When you say they ''don't seem inclined'' what do you mean?

The UK have been increasing testing dramatically  https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-51814874

The total number of tests have increased from 25,000 to 44,000 in the last week.

Even today the UK Chief Medical Advisor said ''We are ramping up testing significantly''.

Indeed and the problem with mass speculative testing is that it's very labour intensive and takes already stretched nursing staff off the wards where they could be treating those who are actually sick.

I think they are working on a test which will tell if someone has had the virus as well as if they’re currently infected.  Guessing that means one which tests for antibodies rather than the virus.  That would give more info and be worth doing.

Yes that's what I thought when I heard it. Testing for people who basically didn't know they had it (ie who were asymptomatic) and finding out why.

If you know who has had it you can send them back to work whereas currently we have thousands of people in self isolation who needn’t be.  That would make a huge difference to essential services and even volunteers.

Has Government reacted in a measured way ?

The problem with listening to the experts, is that their advice changes, as new evidence emerges. So a Government that is following the expert advice, appears to be inconsistent and is either applying too many measures or not enough measures.

Politicians can never win in these situations. Easy to criticise decisions, but would you want to be in their shoes at a time like this ?

We could do with some help from you.
