Membership problems - david lloyd gym

Recommended Posts

Any advice would be most appreciated.

On 9th October I joined David Lloyd Royal Berks on joint membership with my partner.

I was already a member at David Lloyd Newbury.

I asked about transferring my mrmbership and was told to write to my club to inform them (I also called).

They replied it would take 5 days.

When signing forms at Royal Berks they said if there were any problems with the transfer to inform them and they would sort it out, probably by end of the week.

I have been a gym member (at different gyms). for over 30 years.  David Lloyd's for 5 and go 5 times every week.

To keep this short,

after 20 emails (all recorded) and speaking to 11 different staff on 23rd November ( 7 weeks) Newbury still hadn't transferred my membership.

They said they had the day I initially contacted them and blamed Royal Berks.

Royal Berks insisted they hadn't received anything.

On 27th November it was time to renew my membership at Newbury and I wrote (to both clubs informing them I was so annoyed at their lack of action I was resigning.

I was also cancelling membership of my partner.

The manager of Newbury wrote back offering  apologies and allowing my immediate cancellation without any fees.

However, Royal Berks are pursuing my partner for missed fees.

They have written and called threatening to pass the debt to debt collectors.

I understand the terms and conditions and technically my partner can't cancel early.

But my point is we tried to buy joint membership and that never happened.

My partner would never go on her own and the three times I went to Royal Berks I was questioned in front of other members about my membership validation.

I have offered to pay a month for my partners fees although we have not been to the club since 27th November.

My question is

we joined for joint membership.

For whatever reason that never happened.

Should I still have to pay all fees without Royal Berks accepting any responsibility as Newbury have done.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

simply WRITE by royal mail offering the one extra membership fee after cancelling was done.

if they refuse to accept that resolution, then simply ignore everyone.

a DCA is NOT A BAILIFF

and have

ZERO legal powers on ANY debt.

and stop ringing/use email..writing only from this letter on.

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

if everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's tomorrow

the biggest financial industry in the UK, DCA;s would collapse overnight.

Hi GM and welcome to CAG

There are other threads here about DL gyms. Use the search bar at the top to search for DL cases.

DL will refer the case to their usual DCA, ARC Europe, They will huff and puff but will usually do nothing aprt from threaten this and that.

Please confirm :-

1. Is Royal Berks chasing you for any m/ship fees, or just YP.

2. Was YP a joint member with you for the Newbury gym.

As DX says, stay off the phone completely and keep all comm'ns in writing

We could do with some help from you
