Hi all

Yes, Nationwide, you know the one that's supposed to be different from the others; well, it is, it's charges are even higher! My wife has been charged just under £1300, over 14 months, for returned direct debits and standing orders (even when some of these have been 'transfers' set up by herself!). No letter is sent, no phone call is received, £30 a time is simply debited to the account, without notification of any kind. Absolutely outrageous. Every last penny of her £1300 overdraft has been caused by illegal charges.

The first letter sent to recover these has met with a 'no, we are entitled to do this' and a hint that she may want to consider alternative banking arrangements. So, it's on to the next stage. Does anyone have any advice? Or experience with Nationwide? Also, if alternative banking arrangments have to be found, any recommendations would be appreciated?

Where did you write to to get a reply? I have sent 2 letters recorded delivery and they haven't replied to either! I am claiming around £500.00

HELP! Second letter sent to Nationwide threatening legal action to recover charges levied; just sent and no response as yet. However, the account in question has been removed from the online banking screen and, to make matters worse, the cash card used on another account with them has just been retained at the cashpoint!! This account is in credit and we had wanted to withdraw the cash. What now!? Does this mean they are closing both accounts? How can we access our cash?

Is this kind of action on their part usual?

HELP!!!
