Hi All,

My wife is currently 30 weeks pregnant (due in 10 weeks) and today we received a penalty charge notice saying she has claimed a free prescription but that they wasn't able to check that she was eligible.

She has her MatB1 but looking online apparently we needed a maternity exemption certificate? Although nobody has told us this is the case, they just say you get free prescriptions when pregnant.

From what I can work out, it was the midwifes responsibility to fill out a form, but now we're being fined £54 even though my wife is certified as being pregnant.

They have given us the option of paying the original prescription charge, but I don't think that's fair given that she is clearly pregnant and exempt and that we don't think it was our fault either?

Where do we stand on this please.
