Good morning. Was initially going to ignore a PCN I received by post, but thought better of it and lo and behold my search for Park Watch and PCN info revealed there are forums for this.

Park Watch are saying we exceeded maximum stay by 12 minutes in a 4 hours free car park. They have enclosed an image and timestamps as proof.

My concern is that 4 hours of parking is free but an additional 12 minutes equates to £100. This feels unacceptable as it's around what we spent instores. No one was inconvenienced by our overstay, no earnings were lost. They are neither council nor police.

I have complained to the shopping centre via email to see if they can cancel this speculative invoice for me, though their website indicated if your query is regarding a Park Watch issued ticket please email [email protected] directly who can help with all parking queries. I have not as yet.

I saw the 4hr maximum stay sign as we drove in but foolishly didn't inspect any further signage after parking, lost track of time thus here I am. Would be grateful for any advice on what steps to take. I have gone through some threads to read that if they persist they can go through small claims. A family member had a similar issue with the same company at a different car park where his appeal was declined but they eventually stopped sending letters.

Y

5 Is there any photographic evidence of the event?

Have you had a response? [Y/N?] post it up

N

The fleecers are supposed to give a minimum 10 minutes grace period, so 12 minutes is hardly unreasonable during the Christmas period when it's more difficult to find a parking space and inevitably there are jams.

That's on top of the all the usual reasons these invoices are pants.

Did you do a great deal of shopping at one or more shops?  If so, a first step could be to approach those shops directly to have the invoice cancelled.

We could do with some help from you.

Yes, currently trying to locate receipts in response to an email I just received from the shopping centre,

"Can you please provide your vehicle registration and PCN reference number. I will also need any receipts you have showing you where at One Stop, shopping during the four hours 12 minutes in question so that I can review your case please."

But I will hit up those stores too, as well as see if there's some way they can reprint receipts in case.

Must say that's a promising reply from the shopping centre - they didn't just fob you off and say to appeal to the parking company.

Hopefully if you can show them receipts (or screenshots of debit or credit card transactions) that should do the trick.  Good luck!

Those transaction screenshots helped as I was only able to recover a single receipt! So begins my habit of storing receipts carefully. Turns out complaining first can work, what a lovely person to solve it for me on same day.

Thank you.

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...
