Hi

i was in desperate need for a new car battery

I went to the local Halfords Autocenter on Monday,

I was told they didn't have any in stock and would order one in.

I was told it would be in the next day.

They didn't call me to let me know of a cost or what options would be available to me.

The next day I returned first thing and had a battery fitted at a cost of £121.72,

at the time I sucked up the cost as my old battery was dead

but since then I thought I must've defiantly been over charged!?

I have searched for the battery they installed

it is neither on the halfords autocenter website or the main halfords website.

A quick google search has shown it is available in other retailers almost 70% cheaper!!!

On top of this my car has failed its MOT and I have 2 weeks to find a new one.

What can I do as I believe I have been charged unfairly,

the invoice only states renew the battery,

there is no mention of the battery cost or installation fee.

Thanks in advance

From what you say I'm afraid there's probably very little you can do about it. It's too late now but you should have checked the cost and make sure that you are happy with it before you commissioned the sourcing of the battery and the fitting of it.

The only possibility that occurs to me is that maybe the battery has been sourced by somebody privately and fitted to your car and somebody is pocketing the money rather than it being done by Halfords. This will be a very serious allegation and you need to be careful as to how you make it.

I would suggest that you visit another Halfords Autocenter and asked them to quote you for a battery fitted to your vehicle and see what they come up with.

It certainly seems strange that the invoice you have received is so sparse as to its detail.

Go and see another centre and then come back here and tell us what they say.

Hi Chivers,

We need to know the car make and exact model, petrol or diesel and if it's an auto stop/restart model. The battery model and maker would help too.

Then we can see if you have been as badly overcharged as you say...........

........ and maybe give you some suggestions.

We could do with some help from you

failed mot has nothing to do with this issue why even mention it.

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...
