Tax credit fraud

Recommended Posts

Please no judgement...

i had been claiming tax credits legitimately since the split of me and my husband in August 2016 but I met somebody in Oct 2016 who had his own place. 2018 he moved in however in July 2018 had a breakdown and left, we got back together and he moved in again jan 2018.

During this time I got into a spiral of payday loans and was in debt and totally lost as it all came unexpected.

january 2018 everything back on track even though I was paranoid he would leave and I’d be in the same position as not only did he leave he cheated and was planning on going back to his ex. Initially that is why I never informed tax credits.

late January I found out I was pregnant and this made me even more anxious as I was off work with hyperemesis, time went on and I’d still not informed tax credits.

I am in the position where I want to come clean but don’t know how to go HMRC. My oh doesn’t know anything And I’m petrified of going to prison or a letter coming through the door or that they already know.

he has financial links and I’ve just put him on the council tax.

we have a newborn baby and I’m struggling mentally and I think this is the biggest part, I’m crippled in debt and not sure what to do

I work but have been on sick since jan and had my daughter in sept

I think I’m just petrified as I know I should have changed it and the weeks have turned to months and now I’m scared that if they already know or I get a letter.

scared of going to prison and my 3 kids living without me

I’ve read so many posts on netmums and on here and there’s a lot of mention of going to courts. In hindsight I know it’s my fault but if my oh finds out he will leave, I will lose my job and house

you wont be going to prison no.

might it not be better to write to HMRC and pre-empt the problem.

Should I write or cancel my claim?

I’m wanting to inform them as it’s causing so much stress I’m worried about it.

Even going to court petrifies me I’m making myself ill.

It’s been a mixture of worrying over my partner and relationship but then constantly worried about this also and now I feel I’m in a rut I can’t get out of and I’m going to lose everything

forget reading elsewhere because all you will see is what you want to take in

hence the stupid idea you'll lever  goto prison.

read, understand and follow the given guidance in this topic

as for you debts.

start a thread in the Payday loan forum here.

it may well be that lots of your loans were irresponsible lending and you can get £1000's knocked off or atleast some wiped out.

Cost of putting someone  in prison and taking kids away = 500 K plus. For 5 K's worth of Tax Credits?

That's why it never happens.

I think half of the issue is I am reading all the horror stories. Will they take me to court?

Mumsnet is full of BS.  No chance of going to court.

Probs will need to pay something back, nothing that will break the bank. Or they will deduct it off your current award each month.  There is a certain percentage they can take off, it's not a lot!

Oh and I'm not just making this up either, I have been there, by a large amount.

Ok was it is a similar circumstance?

I will definitely offer to pay it back as I think we will be over the threshold?

I think at the very most it’ll be £7600.

thank you dx I’ll go on there.

I’ve that much debt I don’t actually know what I’ve gotten and just in the habit of burying my head in the sand and carrying on spending and ignoring.

I genuinely think i have an issue

Hi.

Try to find some time to read other tax credits threads here. As has been said, they don't try to send people to prison and will arrange to make deductions.

Loads of people have been worried like you are and everyone comes away feeling much better and wishing they'd plucked up the courage to do it before.

I’ve read a few.

I think it’s a case of knowing I’ve done wrong and rather admit than be found out.

It’s been a whirlwind of a year.

I’ve been trying to find cases and circumstances where people have been taken to court or even worse put in prison.

Even court would be bad enough

neither of which will ever happen.

We do keep telling you prison is very very unlikely but you don't believe us. :) Read some more threads please,  especially ones that are marked Resolved.

thank you :)

Hi

I’ve just been reading through the threads.

I’m going to ring HMRC and come clean.

Is there a possibility do you think that my case will end up at court?

I’m just trying to pre-empt and prepare myself.

I’ve had weeks of worry and I think netmums and google make things a hundred times worse.

I’ve only ever claimed tax credits and from the threads it seems they are more understanding than others but I am unsure as to why. I think it’ll be around £7600 I owe back which is quite a lot.

thank you, they all appear to be setting up arrangements even the ones that have been fraud

Thank you dx just realised it had been answered

Still scared but yes. The tax credits seem more lenient than dwp none of the threads even resulted in an iuc which I find strange

ive made myself so paranoid about it all.I’m going to ring and come clean.

Well done on the turnaround of outlook, I'm proud of you. :)

You need to post up your debts on a different forum for more advice, dx will tell you which. Could we keep this thread to your tax credits issues please?
