Hi just sent DPA SAR letter today....they have 40 days to comply....Great site but I couldn't navigate my way out of a paper bag so apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place...Just wondered if anyone had previously used one of the many companies springing up offering to reclaim on your behalf? They seem to reclaim a fair bit for themselves......but if you're lazy and/or incompetent might it be worthwhile?!

Hi - take a bit of time to read up first to make sure that you have the facts before going too far ahead. Read the FAQs and template letters then have a good read around here to see how others are getting on. Keep any progress on your own claim or questions that arise in a new thread in the forum for your bank to make it easier for others to follow and advise you. There's a set of links in my sig below that will help you find where all this useful information is. Well done for getting started! :)

It's your choice - for that extra bit of work that you do yourself you can have ALL of your money back and not have to give some of it up.

Jeep (The Wife & I)

Halifax joint a/c (£3800 charges + £40 interest on charges over 11 years) - paid in full 23/06/06

Halifax joint a/c new charges £1100 - LBA sent 02/08/06

Halifax 2nd a/c (£1500 charges + £150 interest on charges) - partial payment received 13/07/06 (no s69 interest) - AQ filed 07/08/06 - Court awarded 50% of s69 interest (Bank didn't turn up!)

Halifax Visa (#1) Data Protection Act sent - statements arrived - £350 so far

Halifax Visa (#2) Data Protection Act sent - refunded £170

Follow the route: FAQs > Template Library > Parachute Account > Bank Forums > Spreadsheet

Thanks for replying! It took me two days to work out what letter to send! Has anyone lost on a technicality? I haven't seen a losing thread yet...It appears the game is up for the banks yet they merrily continue the unlawful charges. Can't they be forced into court? Or is it that once they pay up the full claim they're off the hook? If someone made an extravagant claim that was disputable and tempted them into court would the whole thing be thrown out or would a ruling on the charges be forced at the same time thus setting precedent? Ideally everyone should be reimbursed automatically as the worst victims are usually the least able to defend themselves...

You need to be posting here http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/alliance-leicester/ to get the best advice from those with experience ask a mod to move the thread rather than start a new one.

A&L were fairly quick with my statements but its a good time, while you are waiting for them, to have a good read of the FAQ's and A&L threads.

Be prepared for them closing your account and for them putting up a fairly feeble fight, I have just issued my court claim against them.

Hi Marchog.

I would suggest that you spend a couple of days reading the FAQs and the sep by step guide in the library section.

That will give you the answers you need.

It is important that you get it right if you want to win.

Good luck.

Jan has posted a link to the section of the forum where you need to be posting. I suggest you do this and keep all your updates in that thread as suggested already to you.

When the 40 days has expired you can complain to the ICO....print and send this form off......

but you need to have complained to A&L first.

Good luck! and if you are going to proceed with this yourself I suggest that you spend more time reading up:)

Thanks for your help! I have no sympathy for this bank that has taken money from me when I was at my poorest and couldn't afford my rent/food. I only hope a website that shoots landlords is next.

Now settle down with a marking pen and a stiff drink. The fun begins with A & L and you. make sure they stick to your timetable and don't be gentle with them. I got back my claim and now I am after second bite, the cheeky sod never learnt the first time around the block with me.

If you need help enough of us out here to help you.
