Another issue is that unless you change HOW you get your internet, a different provider (but STILL using ‘phone line’ / Openreach’s infrastructure) can’t offer you a better quality of service.

How much bandwidth do you use?

Do you need low latency (e.g gaming)?

What upload and download speed do you need?

Is the neighbour ‘blocking’ cable access still there and still resistant?

If not could you get Virgin to connect you to cable?

Agree that if you are going with ‘Phone line’ (ADSL) service, ‘port’ to the new provider rather than “manually cancel and restart’.

Actually BazzaS i disagree... Plusnet and TTBs network are known to be of lower quality compared to Sky and BTs HDW.

Some will beable to provide a better throughput than others.

DR Fox... What's the mobile connectivity like where you are?

We could do with some help from you.

Where does the infrastructure diverge from ‘common’ (Openreach) to ‘distinct’ (Plusnet vs Sky)?

Where is the “rate limiting step” here?

If the quality issue arises in the ‘Openreach’ part, if that is the rate limiting step : how does e.g. a different router improve speed?

In a variety of exchanges, Sky and other ISPs have a range of equipment in the exchange that they use to provide their networks. Not all equipment is OR maintained. Plusnet and TTBs equipment is more likely to provide slower speeds etc

Unless this issue is OR here... ADSL is being phased out and might not be appropriate

I think the OP should consider 4G alternatives

Vodafone and H3G might be an idea... I get 60 on H3G down and 80 when I tested on Voda...

They now offer UNL packages...

Agree OP should look at the range of options, hence knowing what is important to them (latency? Bandwidth? Download caps?) is key.

Mobile data might be an option, but unlikely if low latency (eg gaming) is their priority.....

Pretty good.   There is a mobile mast roughly 300 yards from us.

I noticed you mentioned vodaphone.  I've done a quick search and they have guaranteed min 25mbps speed and the price is £15 cheaper than we are paying at the moment with no set up fees etc..

The old bloke has been dead a couple of years.  He told me himself that he refused them entry to the street.

A few neighbours did contact virgin to try and get the cables in the street but they said it would cost too much money.  There are only 10 houses in the street so we couldnt pay for that ourselves either.

IAs you have picked up i know nothing about this type of technology,  and i only use the internet for ebay,  youtube etc..

I have 2 kids who have started online gaming and they were moaning about stuff.  Thats when I decided to contact Plusnet

Vodafone are good as they now only specialise in FTTC and FTTP 😂

Look at Vodafones Gigacube too... 4G Edition... 😊

Finally... Vodafone bought Cable & Wireless and their equipment located in Openreach's exchanges...

It's much better and had lots more investment than Plusnets

What do they offer you if they can’t meet the guarantee?

What dates are against these?

They reprovisioned the circuit for Broadband for some reason

Unless this was an ADSL to FTTC upgrade
