In 2016 I had to leave quickly from the UAE following redundancy, from this I had an overdraft facility on my bank card.

I was paying it off gradually up until January this year when I had to stop payments due to changing jobs and things being a bit tight.

I received an email from their credit team 2 months ago notifying me of the outstanding amount and looking for repayment.

The total amount was about 5,000, AED (about £1,100) i paid an initial £200 of as requested as an intention to settle whilst we negotiated a repayment plan,

I informed them of what I could pay 12 instalments over 12 months, they refused this and wanted me to pay in two instalments which I can't afford.

They've now informed me they will be escalating to Debt Recovery.

My questions are;

- Can I ignore the debt collection and continue to pay off the amount directly by making payments to my old UAE account?

(I fully intend to repay and over pay on months that I can afford it)

- If yes once the amount is settled would the DCA be cancelled?

- Are they realistically going to pursue me in the UK for what realistically is quite a small amount?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you

block and bounce any emails

dca's are totally powerless on any debt let alone a foreign one!

yes ofcourse you can pay the OC directly.

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

don't bother negotiating

theres little if anything they can do.

its nice you are paying it off, but do not short change yourself. many don't bother as the debts will be inflated by bogus charges.and never be gone I bet

just pay what you think you owe

then drop it totally

I still have access to the online account so will make payments until it's a zero balance, theres only interest but at the same rate it's always been, chances are ill settle before 12 months I've told them I'm not engaging with any third parties only direct to them. Thanks for the advice

interest on an UAE account ?

No, it is against Sharia law so the interest has been added by the debt collector as their holiday ice cream fund.

Maybe its just an overdraft charge, its not with the DCA yet thats just what I've seen applied within the online banking account
