This issue started in the North West of England and has spread south.

Think the only solution to stop it, is to remove ability to obtain advance payments online. Then require claimants to call UC to validate the claim information, before any advance payment can be issued.

Any online system can be subject to problems. Online Insurance arrangements can be subject to attempts to mislead Insurers and there have been bogus brokers selling on Insurance arranged online using false information to get a cheaper premium.

We could do with some help from you.

Problem is UB that UC is designed as Digital by Default, but there must be a face to face application as this is the only sure way to nip this one in the bud.

Some customers are also doing it on purpose to get a large advance, then asking for their claim to be closed, then reopening them again and doing the exact same thing again £3,000 in a week not bad.

What they don't get is that DWP can obtain whose bank the money went to and trace it from there.

I would estimate around £5,000 to £15,000 a day, per job centre is being acquired this way, smaller job centres probably less affected.

Didn't think about people actually doing it deliberately!............

So we have 1 fraud.... which online advanced ID verification was specifically designed to stop......

Coming in 2 variants;

1, taking advantage of vulnerable and poor people - which is despicable

2, claimants themselves getting a bumper advanced payout - which is moderated for my language

Idiots f*** em vulnerable people we need to protect... although I have a seeking suspicion the DWP  will add A to B and f*** em over!

They are currently not looking at removing advances and are taking the hit to stop vulnerable people being affected by this.

There are ways to stop it, but they won't listen and would rather lose the money.

Haven't they backtracked about not claiming the money back?

Either way it a complete mess, Universal credit is a key risk now for Housing Providers, there is the problems with 5 week months and other glitches liuke a tax rebate after starting a new job  and other stuff affecting payments.  That's before the  working people migrating find out they are now subject o the same Sanction regime as unemployed, and can be dragged in for work focussed interviews when they could be working.
