SAS flights cancelled - unsure of rights?

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

unfortunately, due to a pilots’ union strike, the flights for me, my wife and 18 month old daughter from Oslo to Manchester tomorrow have been cancelled.

I found out through constantly searching the net being as SAS we’re an absolute nightmare to get hold of and, I see, wouldn’t answer questions on their Twitter and Facebook pages (I was trying their numbers but was either on hold for ages or was getting cut off).

Last night, being as the flights were looking as though they’d be cancelled, I booked some later flights for my family through another airline.

Finally, an hour ago, SAS confirmed that the flights were cancelled (so I’m glad I took the chance).

However.....SAS have rebooked us on another flight that goes Oslo-Frankfurt-Munich-Manchester and would last eight hours.

Being as my wife is pregnant, we have the young daughter and two suitcases, two rucksacks and a baby stroller, this is not do-able.

my questions are;

1. Can I cancel these flights that they’ve booked for us?

2. Can I claim the cost of my flights back,, as well as the Ryanair flight costs?

3. What compensation can I claim, if any?
