Hi all.

I've got accidental damage and new for old on my home contents insurance which also covers gadgets.

I spilt coffee on my phone and it had to be sent off for inspection, they have said its beyond repair.

Its an iPhone 7 Plus and as I've got new for old insurance what will they have to provide me with? Just so I know my rights.

Thank you.

Well presumably they will have to provide you with a new iPhone 7.

I think new for old means precisely those words. A new version of your old model. If they don't have any more of those left then it will be the next equivalent upwards.

These phone Insurances work with companies that hold large stocks of older models, so they are usually available. If not, they would replace with the model that replaced the older model.

they will only gibe you an updated version if the old version is not available and if the price is massively different then they can pay you in cash instead.  For example, i own an expensive watch and I lose it. The watch I lost is a1960's classic Rolex. they wont have to scour the world looking for the same watch in all of the auction houses, they pay me the cash value instead despite the new for old policy
