My landlord wants to increase my rent, and so he has asked me if I can get an increase from my Housing Benefit. I'm in shared accommodation with a private landlord, and I'm also claiming ESA.

What are my options?

Depends if the rent increase is within the Local Housing Allowance, if it is more you will have to fund any deficit from your benefits.

EG: LHA - £100 per week Rent = £110, then you would have to find the difference yourself. Best phone council and ask.

I'm already getting the maximum, it seems. Looks like I'll have to pay the difference, then.

DHP is worth an application if you are in dire circumstances after an increase.

I'll talk to the CAB sometime about all of this, rather than contact the local council directly. Thanks for the helpful info, peeps!
