I have spent a lot of time abroad whilst still using my halifax debit card.

Each time I use it abroad the Halifax charges me £1.50!

These show up on my statements as 'Debit card service charge' after each transaction.

Can I claim for these also?

As I have done this for the last four years, this will be a considerable amount!!!

Thanks for your help.

it is Visa that charge that, not HX- its where VISA make their money.

I do think that the charge made by VISA is a perfect illustration of how much it really costs to issued a bank charge. The £1.50 is a fair charge for such a service. You'll notice however that the exchange rate employed by the banks does vary considerably on a daily basis, however it also tends to be less competitive when compared to other "high street" rates offered to tourists, so the banks still make a decent margin when you consider how many people out there use UK plastic abroad.
