    • I wouldn't just ask them. I would send them an email confirming that the dealer has now agreed to receive the car back and that in view of the fact that they sold the car illegally and also in unsatisfactory condition, they have avoided the contract from the very beginning and therefore all agreements to purchase the car and any related agreements to finance it are now considered void from the outset. Tell them that this is your position and you want it confirmed. If your finance company will not confirm it then you are going to begin an immediate complaint to the financial ombudsman service because they will not be observing their duties under the consumer credit act. I think you need to be very insistent about all of this.

So I currently have a mid 2014 macbook pro with 128GB . Does me fine but there are a couple of niggles 1) When I shut the lid, sometimes the battery life drains away overnight 2) Sometimes the screen just goes blank, usually fixed if I plug it in or wait a while

Anyway I can get a really good price on a new Macbook Air about £450 for the 128 and £550 for the 256Gb . Or for another 150 ish I think a macbook pro 128

Clearly I like Macs but will admit I do not use them to their potential but I am used to how they work and the keyboard layout and can just about manage to type my essays at a reasonable speed

Looking at the various Macbooks, I don't like the basic mac as it only has the one port so when charging you can not add anything else in, also no space for SD cards. Similar worries about the pro except it does have more ports - but I would have to spend more money to use USB connections.

The air however, although it has what I need, expansion capability and USB ports , feels a little old hat so really looking for impartial advice.

Weight is important but so is size, the mac is only 12 inches whereas the air is 13.3

Any thoughts

I've had an Air 128 GB for nearly two years now, never had any problems, like you I never use it to it's potential.

Just got one for my son through my work but will be paying a lot more than £450, paying in instalments. My son carries his around in a backpack weighs 2.96 pounds (1.35 kg).

I'd think £450 for one was a bargain.

Just to be open and honest about it, the reason I can get one for so little is that I have been given a grant via DSA for a Windows laptop because my current machine has become slightly unreliable and this cost would be an upgrade to a Mac.

There is another option in that I buy one using my student discount from Apple and get some of the cost back but no one seems to understand if the amount quoted for the windows laptop is ex VAT

fletch,

I wondered why you could get one so cheap, thought it must have fallen off the back of a lorry without getting damaged.

I'm having to pay a bit more than I wanted for my son's one but it was for his 21st and I was sick of him borrowing mine :)

Let us know what you decide to do.

Well things get complicated. DSA changed supplier because of an extra microphone order)and their upgrade price was crazy, it would have cost almost as much as I can buy a new air for with my student discount. Clear profiteering in my book, especially when you consider there is no VAT to pay on DSA hardware.

So I had two options, go back to the old supplier and hope they would honour the deal (and then probably have to buy the mic at about £40) or buy from apple direct and get £375 back.

So I have decided to go for the buy from Apple direct myself so the only decision is 128Gb or 256 Gb . As there is an expansion slot for an SD card I wonder if 128 is enough

I also get a set of beats headphones FOC

Finally got it sorted and back to microlink . Their upgrade is cheaper than I could but even with student discount although I will miss out on the Beats headphones but i will survive.

Just holding fire now as there are rumours of a new Mac Air in Sept but I might just go for it anyway
