hey hoping someone can advise me!

I had my first car insurance cancelled in 2013 coming up to 5 years ago the reason being that i took the policy out as i was buying my first car and mistakenly said id had my licence for 1 year (id had it for 10 months) so when i sent my licence as proof they cancelled the insurance.

The fact is it was a silly mistake,i just thought oh its been around a year i wasnt trying to deceive them as i knew i was going to have to send proof anyway.. i now seem to be paying for this mistake!

Will I have to disclose forever? and as a consequence most insurers will turn me away?

My current insurer know all this but my premium remains nearly the same as when i first took it out despite the fact i am now older than 25, have 5 years no claims and have a 1.3 litre car.

Most insurers ask "Have you ever" online, which means you should always disclose it. When it comes to renewal it may be better to phone insurers so they know how long ago it was. Not saying it'll make a difference, but it's worth a try.

:)I am not an expert, but I can give good advice about Brighthouse:)

Am learning more and more about DCA's too :)

I have no legal experience and all advice given is based on the knowledge I've gained from this site.

I believe insurers can ask if you have ever had a policy cancelled, in which case you would need to declare it. However, some only ask if you have anything to declare from the last 5 years.

You'd have to check the wording carefully when it comes to renewal quotes.

Further thought.

It might be an idea to go and visit your local insurance broker rather than getting quotes online. At least that way you'll be able to explain the full circumstances of the cancellation, and they'll know which companies to approach that might be more willing to accept you without loading the price.
