Nice bit on the news last night about a clamp applied to a car in a private car park in Belfast.

If you didn't know, clamping on private land is leagl in N Ireland

the news showed footage that appeared to show a man removing a clamp from a car outside a gym. That man was Gerry Kelly, the PIRA No3 and now minister for police in the NI assembly.

I assume that he doesnt habitually drive around with bolt crops in his car so it is an even bet that the gym he was attending lent him said crops as they had to share the car park under the "management" of whatever parking co it was.

To my mind the signage was there but too small and mounted high on a wall and no sign of illumination but the problem with clamping is that you may well be right about this but you have to pay the bandits and then sue to get your money back.

I do wonder though as whether the clamping co will want to try and press charges for criminal damage to their lock or whether on this occasion they will let the IRA tough guy off as a "gesture of goodwill"and thus not need to reconsider their career paths an a small island somewhere far away.
