Hi all.

 

I've started work in a new place......well 5 months ago. I'm in an office of 18 people.

 

We have 6 cameras. No signs. No Policy. No information.

 

And I know that our Site manager is using them to watch us coming and going and to see if we are on our mobiles during working time.

 

I feel very uneasy about this and have been told stories whereby the knowledge of a person's particular activity could only have come from monitoring the cameras.

 

There is nothing valuable, confidential, sensitive or anything worth stealing.

 

We have no problem with any type of petty crime and Security is most definately not an issue.

 

We have a swipe card system on our door which is 200 yards inside our gate.

 

What should I do.

After five months?

You should do nothing.

 

Unless you are absolutely sure your employer will welcome your input.

 

In which case, tell him he’s breaking the law.

Agree with the above entirely. What you should do if you don't like it is to find another job. Irrespective of what the employer is doing wrong, with less than two years service the employer can terminate your employment for almost any reason they want - and they will most certainly do so - without any real option available to you

 

Keep your head down, turn up and leave on time and do what is expected of you whilst you are on the premises. Let the CCTV be the problem of others not doing likewise!

You could check the ICO web site and see if the compnay has registered its use with them. If not that tells you quite a lot about your employer and you should then consider whether you want to stay there inthe long run.
