Hi all. I'm hoping someone can help me with the below please?

I signed up for a trial on a website called alphaprep.net for their CCNA courses on 27th October,

tried the service and didn't want to continue beyond the trial.

The website informed me upon signup that they would send me an email to remind me to cancel before the trial period was up

(see attached screen shot from their website).

They didn't do this and then subsequently charged me $259.99 without any other notice.

I have since e-mailed them to request a refund and cancellation but they informed me that they won't provide this.

Can anyone give me any help on what i should do here?

Should i just go to my bank and ask them to chargeback the amount?

Just another note to add...

I was just reviewing the original email receipt for the trial and it doesn't state anything about cancelling at all.

Please be patient I am sure the caggers will be along to give there wisdom.

Now you mention the price you paid in Dollars but

Did you get any Agreement / Terms and Conditions? (looked at there website and cannot find any Terms and Conditions did they give you a members login area where these may be?)

You will need to contact your bank as it sounds likes they may have set up a Continuous Payment Authority with the bank details you provided them with so you need to get this cancelled. https://www.fca.org.uk/news/news-stories/continuous-payment-authorities-it-your-right-cancel

If you check the website it seems to either be American / Canada: http://whois.domaintools.com/alphaprep.net (you may have to complete a captchu to see the link)

How was this paid i.e. via Debt / Credit Card / Paypal etc?

In short,

go to the bank,

tell them it is an unauthorised transaction and get them to reverse it.

As for the company being in another country, doesnt matter, if they want to sell you a service they obey UK law.

However, you should also realise that all of these sorts of snake oil salesmen will help themselves to your money once they have your card details

you have to be proactive in this sort of thing.

You knew the trail was ending so you should have asked your bank to stop any changing attempt before it was due and they would then be liable if the company did get hold of your money

(I did reply to the above messages but it hasn't gone up yet... strange)

In short i've asked my bank to chargeback the amount, which they've happily done.

I have definitely learnt from it.

I guess we all assume that all companies will deal with some common courtesies and not be con artists these days, but sadly not.
