Can anybody advise how long I will remain on the CIFAS register.

I have been put on the Cifas register by Barclays bank.

The category used was aiding and abetting.

I know I can try and fight it but it has caused me so much stress and time that I feel for my own well being I should just wait until it comes off the register.

I am not a fraudster but had money paid into my account which I reported to the bank.

As a result they closed my accounts and added me to the CIFAS register.

Thank you

Hi,

This is what Equifax say...

Report depends on the type of fraudulent activity. A Victim of Impersonation alert remains for 13 months, and a Protective Registration warning remains for two years. In all cases, the warning remains on the database for at least a year from the date of the most recent fraud.

Any advice I give is honest and in good faith.:)

If in doubt, you should seek the opinion of a Qualified Professional.

If you can, please donate to this site.

Help keep it up and active, helping people like you.

Well it's not a Victim of Impersonation marker nor does it concern Protective Registration. It's a category 7 CIFAS marker for aiding and abetting so the answer is 6 years.

Thanks for the replies so that's 6 years on the register.

There I was with a really good credit score and then they do this to me which is worse than a terrible credit score.

I hope they don't close my personal accounts as well.

Hi Gerona,

This is the problem you have if you choose not to challenge the adverse CIFAS marker. This is, of course, your prerogative and I note your comments about stress in post #1 above.

Barclays or any other bank is free to deny you banking facilities whenever they want, with little notice.

Have you another a/c you can use if necessary. Perhaps a basic a/c should be opened as a precaution.

:-)

I can't even get a basic account now.

I can get a paid for account and I do already have a personal account which I am hoping won't be closed down.

I've had two business accounts closed with no notice.

When I read the information Cifas sent to me it says all they will do is check that Barclays followed the correct procedures.

They probably did follow the correct procedures

- somebody paid fraudulent money into the account

- I'm the one now suffering for it.

I've googled it and it happens to lots of innocent people

I have a CIFAS Marker Cat 6 (Unfairly I might Add) against me - Both my Nationwide Accounts and Barclays Bank Account are still open and i even confirmed with them whether they would be closed -I got told from their Exec Teams - "No"

Its still possible that you may be okay...
