I am wondering if anyone has experience or advise on how to help my 20 year son ( with ADHD) manage his debts and stop further debts occurring?

The bank allowed him to go into a unauthorised OD and the mobile phone company want a 3 figure debt paid.

He doesn't live with me for various reason

I don't know the full extent of his debts.

I want to help him but I am unable to offer financial support.

He understands these debts are his responsibility but he doesn't seem to have the motivation to help himself move on with this.

Hi Lynda and welcome to CAG

It would be more beneficial if you could get your Son to sign up and become a member ..its difficult to advise through a 3rd party and more difficult for us to motivate him.

A few hours on the forum and he will see that its not that complicated and quite easy to take control.

Regards

Andy

ADHD from what i have seen is not a condition that restricts people in that way. They can be quite intelligent, with lots of energy. But they can struggle to concentrate and are not as bothered by such things as debts as people without the condition.

If he owes a debt, but does not have the means to pay, it will of course have an effect on his credit record. The mobile phone companies don't normally take court action themselves, but he will probably have debt collectors after him at some point.

I would suggest you find out what other debts he has and then come back to us. If he can sign up here, that would be better.
