An 'extraordinary' Oxford University student who stabbed her Tinder lover with a bread-knife could be spared jail after a judge said a custodial sentence would damage her future career as a heart surgeon.

Lavinia Woodward, 24, swiped at her boyfriend with the blade, before stabbing him in the leg.

She then hurled a laptop, a glass and a jam jar at him, during the drink and drug-fuelled clash at Christ Church college, Oxford.

This is an unusual case and once she graduates, I would like to see whether this criminal offence will affect her chances of getting a job.

This offence will be disclosed with any DBS check, both standard and enhanced and how will she explain it away. " Oh, I was on drugs and drinking at the time." Is that going to wash with an employer, especially the NHS?

I am all for rehabilitation and not to punish the offender more than that already imposed by the courts but I do find it difficult to understand that because she is clever is a reason not to impose a more serious penalty, even if it was a first offence.

If you are asked to deal with any matter via private message, PLEASE report it.

Everything I say is opinion only. If you are unsure on any comment made, you should see a qualified solicitor

+1

We were just discussing this here

1. The law should be the law to EVERYONE,

and if anything, smarter people should be MORE expected to know and act better

2. Who the heck wants a surgeon with a drink, drugs and apparently anger management problem - whatever the cause.

The Tory Legacy

Record high Taxes, Immigration, Excrement in waterways, energy company/crony profits

Crumbling Hospitals, Schools, council services, businesses and roads

If only the Govt had thrown a protective ring around care homes

with the same gusto they do around their crooked MPs

What this saying that if you are not brainy you will go to jail. Hardly seems fair. I do not think I would like a person with a drug addiction past or present to operate on me or even offer a diagnosis.
