Hi just wantin some advice

my car insurance is due for renewal and was getting some prices as my insurance has just doubled the prices.

When i checked my points

3 of the points i got in 2012 arent actually valid and werent when i took out my insurance last year.

However as i hadnt realised

i declared the points to my insurance company,

but they hadnt told me they werent valid

and so added these onto my insurance

and my insurance went up by £400.

I paid the monthly amounts as i hadnt realised.

Would it be possible to claim the extra back as the insurance company must of known they werent valid and just charged me for the points anyway?

Speak to Insurers customer services and they should be able to see by the date the points were valid from, whether they affected the premium. Insurers do know how long points are valid for and their computer systems should only increase the premium in relation to unexpired points. They will refund you if a mistake has been made. Follow up in writing if necessary as a complaint.

We could do with some help from you.

Insurance companies normally require notification of points awarded for 5 years. They are valid for 3 years for 'totting' purposes and remain on the licence for 4 years.
