Hi

I am lucky enough not to require the use of a credit card at the moment. However a family member has run up a considerable balance on this card. I cannot see any way which they can ever pay this off when the interest is so high. Can one of you confirm that they are allowed to charge this much, and is there any way in which it can be challenged?

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

I rather suspect there is little that can be done about this other than to repay what is owed. Aqua is one of the cards that claim to help people reform their credit history/habits - starts off with high interest rates, with the option of using the card /credit wisely and reducing the interest rate over 3 years.

Hi CitizenB,

I will try and find out more, but it does sound hopeless as they have had bad credit history in the past. Not much to be done except pay it off and learn a hard lesson.

Thank you very much for the information, I will maybe try a call to them to be reasonable. But I doubt it will have much effect.

Hi CitizenB

This is my third attempt at writing this, internet problems

I have read a few credit card cases on here about how unfair these institutions are and wonder if anything can be done through the S140 of COBS.

The holder of this card has asked twice, by letter, for a reduction in interest, but has been refused on both occasions. I believe that this card was started about two years ago and because of the crippling interest rate is unable to get the balance down.

I need to find out more about this first but would be willing to have a go at tackling this lot. They appear to use people with bad credit history, and once they have got them hooked there is no way out.

I would be grateful for any help or guidance about being treated unfairly and how to make a claim about it.
