I have on my credit file a defaulting ongoing account from lowells that they have started registering on my credit file since 2015.

I contacted them in 2015 and asked who they were and they were very unhelpful.

They could not tell me anything unless I gave them further personal information which I was not prepapred to do as they are already ruining my credit file.

I have many other accounts which are all good but this is ruined my credit rating.

it says the default date is 2011 but nothing is put on my file until 2015.

its only for 280 which I would happily pay but it would still leave my credit rating in tatters as it looks like I have not paid a debt.

It says it is for a credit card on my credit file but I seriously don't think I have any credit card debts. so confused

You do need to establish what the debt is before handing over any of your hard earned cash to Lowells.

If you look at your credit file, you should be able to see who originally placed the default - because Lowells are not able to do this themselves, only the original lender/company can do that.

So did you have a similar amount being reported on your file before Lowells took it over ?

The £sum looks to be perhaps a catalogue or mobile phone debt - of course it could be anything, but it is a relatively small sum.

I am in the same position as you but for £18. I have written to them (again). Still waiting for a response. You can have a 'dispute statement' added to your credit file (contact credit reference agency)

Send a Subject Access Request to Lowell. Be patient as they have 40 days to reply. You will then see (if they respond) what the debt is. You will then be able to dispute it if it is wrong. you are quite right that paying it off is not the solution unless you can get Lowell to agree to remove the entry - which they do not do!

I fully intend to pursue Lowell through the courts if necessary. Will update!

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...
