Hi All,

I have a question regarding council tax, i am hoping someone can give me some advice.

I have been told i now have to pay council tax, my father was paying this but recently retired. I have no issues with paying this but i was just wondering if there is anything (discounts etc) i may be eligible for.

I currently earn just under £21,000 a year before tax, my household consists of 5 adults, two of which are pensioners, two who are on job seekers allowance and 1 who is working part time and recieves a part time salary. I am liable for the full amount of council tax according to the band which the property is listed under. I do not own this property my father owns the house and i am paying rent.

Is there anything i may be elegible for? Any help will appreciated.

never heard of that one..

who told you that?

Other than a small payment

Not the whole wack

the property owners are responsible for paying the CTAX [names on the deeds/mortgage]

now he is retired he needs to go see the council and ask what benefits he can get and what discounts

nowt to do with you re:full payment

unless you are named on the deeds/mortgage

I assumed this was the case.

Ok i will transfer the council tax back to my fathers name. As a pensioner what sort of discount would he be eligible for?

Depends on his income & savings

Please do not ask me for advice via PM as I will not reply.

I have just got some more information from my father, sorry for the confusion here.

My father retired in april this year and he has been getting charged the full council.tax each month.

My father did online assessment for council tax,

he gave all the details for the people living in the house,

income and savings details,

my father currently gets pension credit and does not get the state pension.

The online assessment stated my father does not have to pay any council tax (nil), but it stated i would have to pay £1000 a year.

My father had an appointment today with the council and he was advised to give my bank detials so the monthly payments can be taken out of my account based on the assessment.
