I'm sorry to hear that, TJ. It sounds as if the articles we've seen could be right about the problems, then?

Did you talk to any of the staff about what's happening?

Same in the Bristol area, with the local Tesco having empty shelves.

There is a large shortage of lorry drivers apparently, as well as farms struggling to have crops picked and the Brexit related problems.

If  there is anyone out of work or on low wages who wanted to become lorry drivers, they should make enquiries, as they may be eligible for a free or subsidised course, with one of the training providers based around the UK.

We could do with some help from you.

Ah - All the lorry drivers must be locked up in that massive Brexit lorry pen outside dover

Strange as it looks rather empty under those gigawatts of lights

I see Handcocks Hussy has resigned from her 'gifted position

.. and its coming out that Handcock has done all his dodgy deals on private emails (in breach of gov requirements) to avoid scrutiny - because there are high thresholds required to force access to private email accounts wheras the gov emails that he should have used are open to oc scrutiny - as they should be.

Seems to be he (and any others) have turned that 'private' email into a Gov email by using it as such, with a loss of ALL rights to privacy with that account

Matt Hancock has reportedly used private email account for government dealings since March 2020

The private email thing is completely wrong in my view and a very cynical way of going about spending public money. In the real world of companies, it's a sackable offence with many if not all employers to use a private email and rightly so.

There's a campaign by Foxglove who are concerned with data stuff, to stop ministers using 'exploding messages' on WhatsApp and Signal, maybe others. I think they've started a court case.

Even handcocks resignation speech claiming 'doing the right thing (eventually when forced) just shows him as a lying Piers Morgan to the end

He had no intentions whatsoever of resigning and Johnson considered 'cocks forced 'apology' 'the end of the matter'

The Government of lies and cronyism - just what we would have got with Corbyn

What the hell is England becoming (as it seems there wont be a GB for much longer)

You can guarantee searching for the source of the leak will go on with far more intensity than the search for abuses of democracy in 'cocks emails

err:

"because of a loss of up to 100,000 lorry drivers as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and Brexit."

Breakdown figures:

Covid

260 lorry drivers currently locked down after positive covid test

370 lorry drivers died of covid over the last year

Brexit

99,370 EU lorry drivers denied entry by Brexiters and their hostile environment

"Truck driving in the UK has been dominated by eastern European drivers in recent years but many have returned home during the pandemic and found it difficult to return."

Now some might say theres an opportunity for UK people, and I agree.

Shame is that few companies will pay the many hundreds of £££s needed to pass the HGV tests - so heres an opportunity for the UK populists to start funding mass HGV training for UK unemployed ..

I know little about the ins and outs of constitutional law, let alone the acts of union, but the English conservative party using a majority to over-rule parts of the acts of union despite devolved governments opposition sounds like the makings of a constitutional crisis to me

Wonder what the Scots and Welsh will make of it?

Will nicki even need a referendum now?

I think Nicola is the person to look too for the next stage in this.

It seems Boj + the NI + English 'unionists' may have  have effectively trashed the union

or at the very least put it on its shakiest ever footing

Some articles in the media are saying that Rishi Sunak has given up on trying to do a deal for financial services. There's a good thread by Tony Connelly of RTE on what the problems are over equivalence for UK firms but a lot of the problem seems to be lack of trust in the UK, sadly.

EU financial services companies have a lot of money tied up in the UK and UK companies in the EU.

So mutual interest to do a deal ?  Just the timing and rules that would apply ?

Think UK had plans to become a form of tax haven, before Covid hit the financial position.
