Summary of the trade deal with Australia. The benefits to consumers seem to be limited and there are concerns about animal welfare, use of antibiotics and so on. Some commentators think it's a much better deal for Australia than for the UK.

Yep

* 3x the benefit even without the extrapolated benefits to Australia from the resultant collapse of UK farming.

* No damage whatsoever to main Australian industries - quite the opposite

All for (from the UKs own position paper on the negotiations):

A UK’s gross domestic product (GDP) rise between 0.01 per cent and 0.02 per cent, and Australia‘s by between 0.01 per cent and 0.06 per cent over 15 years?

Anyone looked at the cost to the UK economy of entire swathes of the UK farming industry 'going under' (sic)?

So how many multiples of that best case scenario 0.02% rise in UK GDP over 15 years - is the damage to the UK's farming industry going to cost?

50x? 100x? 500x?

Whats the 'biggies in UK exports to Australia?

A reduction in tariffs on cars transported 10,000 miles from the UK to Australia rather than 22 miles to the EU

.. if there is any UK car industry left that is?

... Dont forget Japan already exports to Australia

and maybe  a small tad easier for UK professionals to take their skills to Australia

Looks to me to be National economic suicide - just to give Johnson some tiny crappy 'deal' to claim.

Oh - seems tariffs on Australian beef and lamb is ended  immediately

as johnson calls for end to "burdensome and restrictive (UK) regulation"

The only thing Johnson is boosting is trade deficits and unemployment (or Tory heaven zero hours intermittent contract work)

.. Private profit over national tax income

It will be interesting to see how shoppers feel about the animal welfare aspect of the Oz deal because a lot of people didn't want the products of US farming last time I saw a survey. It's taken a long time for the UK to achieve the standards it has now and it would be a pity to see that reversed.

The version I saw was that rather than trying to get Eastern Europeans, firms should invest in training for the British workforce. Quite a few tried agricultural work under lockdown last year, didn't they? I don't think many stayed on for very long.

I don't know if raising wages and giving better accommodation than tents would help, but then prices will go up.

Tariffs axed immediately on Australian beef and lamb, triggering fears that farmers will be sent ‘to the wall’

Small print – revealed by Canberra, but suppressed in London – reveals pledge to protect farmers for 15 years has (already) been dropped

First the population - all the Brexit lies to get the vote

Then Parliament - unlawfully proroguing it

Then the farmers - no European pickers

Then the exporters - NO great deals with him trashing their place in the single market and NO 'oven ready EU free trade deal with any of the benefits

Then parliament again - repeatedly standing at the box and unapologetically 'misleading Parliament'

Then the financiers (apart from the singapore on Thames ones)

Then the car manufacturers

Then the Fishermen

Now another go at the farmers and the population - food standards WILL fall

Is there anyone he hasn't lied to and betrayed - undoubtedly including nut nut despite the lockdowns? Even the ERG?

Drakeford hasn't thought that far ahead, probably thinks the Gates depopulation agenda will reduce the food requirement, Stanley Johnson Boris's father is on record as saying the UK needs to reduce population from 60 odd million to below 20 million.

Stanley, is an old style Eugenicist in the mould of George Bernard Shaw, who was punting population reduction in the 1930's he actively supported Hitler, wanted a Usefulness Commission that everyone had to face to justify their continued existence.  If they were found to be of no use to the nation or therefore themselves, he wanted a Humane gas to  put them to sleep.

This is Stanley Johnson make your own mind up  Will post the GBS below

Figures sound about right 😕

The moral issues are something else entirely

Heres something unrelated to the above that most will be missing, but the ramifications could be utterly epic from a UK point of view

johnson probably doesn't give much of a monkeys at the moment ... he will

"Things are getting very tense indeed in Northern Ireland. There is now a five-day countdown to resolve a dramatic stand-off over Irish language legislation – or power-sharing arrangements could fall apart. Sinn Fein has said it will not agree to a new DUP first minister without movement on the Irish Language Act. “There is simply no basis for power-sharing if we do not have movement,” said the party. Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald called on the UK government to step in and agree to legislate on the issue at Westminster. But DUP MP Sammy Wilson said the UK government “must not interfere in devolved issues at the behest of Sinn Fein” – accusing Sinn Fein of playing “the politics of ransom”. We have until Monday before the meltdown stage. If either one of the parties fails to agree to the nominations, the UK government assumes responsibility for calling a snap election in the province."

yep

Sinn fein is already at record high support at both ends of the Island of Ireland

DUP is at is lowest ebb with the nutter brigade having dethroned the relatively reasonable option and apparently running a pogrom against anyone who isnt a God fearing, God created the world in 4004BC and the DUP is the unquestionable voice of God Almighty who must be obeyed, and  even more moderate types walking already

Either the DUP back down and lose face - boosting sinn fein  - almost impossible for them to consider,

or the UK gov piss all over the rights of the devolved gov further fuelling the republican cause

or the UK gov calls an election for them while sinn fein is riding high and the DUP is busy fighting its members.

despite all the numptyness, they still have the ability to generate a 'who the F*** do they think they are kidding!!!!

Frost still burbling on about the EU should recognise our food standards as equivalent while in the headlines above Frosts rubbish Johnson is headlining with need to get rid of burdensome food standards regulations and is signing up to Aussie food being shipped in and putting those farmers who abide by the higher standards out of business

Frost is clearly playing to a stupid home market (brexiter) audience, not the EU or anyone with eyes and a working brain cell.
