Sinn Fein would be the largest party in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland if fresh elections were held today, polls show.

The nationalist party has opened up a significant lead over its nearest unionist rivals north of the border, after a sharp collapse in support for the hard-right DUP.

And in the south it has enjoyed a narrow but consistent lead in polling for the next Dail elections since the start of the year, just ahead of Leo Varadkar's Fine Gael, according to a poll of polls.

Oh dear.

We took back control of our borders. The EU took back control of its borders and now Brits aren't being allowed to enter France unless there are exceptional reasons...

From today, Britons travelling to France must give a 'compelling reason' for their trip as the country continues to wrestle with the Indian variant.

And can you imagine the ongoing problems, if Covid-19 restrictions continue to be applied on/off for years to come.  There could be periods when non EU citizens won't be allowed in ( unless exception applies) and there will be long delays at borders, quarantine requirements etc.

Being out of the EU means that the UK will not be in a very good place to negotiate.  It will be too easy for other countries to isolate the UK as an Island nation, if the UK has a new Covid variant.

as Johnson 'the liar's the new ethics watch crony demonstrates he has none

That was likely when he said he 'could resign if his advise wastn't taken - not he would even though its clear hes a rubber stamp crony.

Johnson: I ordered the 200k referb simply without having any idea who was going to pay despite all the shenanigans with doners

No-ethics crony: Thats reasonable no one could be expected to know how redecoration would be paid for. No fault

Johnson: Dont bring up all the lying in and unlawful proroguing of parliament

No-ethics crony - 'not a word

Handcock: I simply didnt know my sisters company in which I have a large amount of shares was fast tracked through the fast track crony lane

No-ethics croney: How could you have known. No fault found.

What Covid-19 proved, was that Governments should be aware of what essential manufacturing businesses should always have a presence in the UK.  UK had a lack of PPE manufacturers and struggled at the start of the crisis in March 2020 to provide PPE.

If WW3 started, the UK would be required to build additional defence capability and also be able to survive with less imports.  For this reason, the UK would be mad to not have steel manufacturing capability. That is just one example. Government needs to audit what essential manufacturing is required to be based in the UK, to help in any crisis situation.

Brexit promised a lot of additional investment in UK Plc, but this is going to be very expensive, with national debt increasing and Government also offering guarantees to investors.  For a Tory Government to depart from the economics of Thatcher,  must be a concern to many older generation 'true blue' Tory supporters, who voted for Brexit, but did not realise the consequence.  The economics are going to be much closer to Corbyn than Thatcher.

seem to be forgetting all the UK based PPE suppliers that offered PPE and were ignored by Johnsons kleptocronyocracy

Sure we linked some of the reports here

We now know why - they weren't Tory cronys and doners - just UK PPE suppliers who offered the stuff at cost - no profit for populist crony mates at taxpayer expense

Cant hide 100's of £millions in skim when the stuff only costs a few hundred million.

Do agree that any independent nation (let alone one that puts real effort into pissing off its nearest trading partners) needs to be 'independent' in all core infrastructure ... and food

No good having it shipped in from 5000+ miles away at extra cost to the taxpayer -  errr see item 1

The way Government procured supplies appears to have been a bit shambolic.

I guess that they had so many offers to supply the huge range of different PPE, that they could not cope with administration.

The reason why it might have been easier to deal with some foreign companies, is the scale of production required. It would be easier to deal with say 10 large suppliers, than 100 smaller suppliers for the same amount of items.

As for Government friends/relatives gaining contracts, all the allegations should be subject to full independent inquiries.

Going back decades ago, the UK had warehouses full of contingency supplies. In every region, there were stores of essential items that were kept just in case they were needed quickly. These warehouses were mostly closed, as Government did not want the cost of having stock that might never be used. I think this contingency measure needs to be looked into again. Modern warehouses have much better technology to keep goods in perfect condition.

I think it's been proven that suppliers in the crony VIP lane were 10 times more likely to get contracts than other companies though, hasn't it? People like the Good Law Project.

Some of them were questioned by civil servants at the time because the bidders had little experience and few assets, but agreements seem to have been bulldozed through.

Seems very well organised for cronies:

Does me or one of my mates know you or are you family/friend:

Set up a company one day - millions in NHS contract a few days later

or even use something like an already set up dog grooming/walking or pizza box company to get a 10's £millions NHS equipment supply contact with no product or regulatory approval - no probs - - worry about delivering something, nothing or just deliver some useless crap later.

Already got a existing, approved and quality PPE company and supply chain - and offer to help at cost?

Do I know you, do you donate to me, are you in my family ... - NO!! pi** off then

Apparently Hospitality sector has lost about 10% of the workforce.  In particular, many businesses are struggling to obtain experienced Chefs.

The tightened visa system to employ foreign workers is going to make it much more difficult, as the UK has always had an influx of EU workers and many of these are now not going to come to the UK.

The reality of Brexit is gradually starting to be revealed and I would predict that by the next General Election, there will be a majority of at least 60/40 to rejoin the EU.

So with Australia scenting blood in the water and threatening Truss and Johnson with a walk away if she doesn't give them all they want

The EU threatening to reciprocate Britains breaching of its agreements - with withdrawing the access those agreements gave

Catholic Irish/American pres Biden expected to give Johnson what for over johnsons messing with the good Friday agreement (Bidens relationship with Europe seems good), and likely demand access for US bleached chicken and hormone grown beef

Truss clearly  needs to stick to negotiating for more bent bananas (that Ghana wants rid of anyway),

and Johnson needs to put the UK policies and procedures in place to manage the UK being a third country, rather than an integral part of the largest single market in the world .. that he's failed to do in the years hes had to do it.

He cant even manage WTO requirements, let alone real trade agreement requirements
