I hope someone can help me please

I am self employed and have always paid what I owe through self assessment.

I always paid in arrears for the previous tax year (as this is what was required) before the January 31st deadline.

the year before last I had to start paying on account for the tax return that usually didn't need paying until 31st Jan the next year - apparently I went over some sort of threshold .

....though they couldn't give me an exact answer as to why this changed.

not only did I have to pay for the tax return that I had just filed (which I had as I put money aside for this)

I also had to pay for some of the next year (for a tax return that I hadn't filed yet) and then again in the July.

...this was a surprise to me as I didn't have any idea this would happen.

So I didn't have the money set aside for this.

I started to pay them monthly to clear this but never quite got on top of this..

..so at the moment I owe them approx. 2k.

I am now paying them £200 a month just to get it slowly down.

..but again I just don't seem to be getting anywhere fast.

They can see I am trying to make an effort as I do pay them my £200 every month - but they keep calling me.

I am currently 6 months pregnant

- a high risk pregnancy and under the perinatal mental health team due to a previous traumatic birth experience and severe anxiety.

I explained this to the last person I spoke to at HMRC, but I did break down in tears and asked if they could call me back in 30 mins so I could compose myself and sort out a plan with them..

.they promised they would...

.but they didn't!!! (This was a month ago)

now they are calling me all the time

- I wondered if they didn't call me back last time because of my situation but clearly that was not the case.

can hound me like this whilst I pregnant and with my added health problems?

I am not denying my debt and I am making efforts..

.but they are adding to my stress which is not good for me or baby

- I have not been able to work as much due to my current health and soon I won't be earning any money

(another issue with being self employed and pregnant)...as I will be unable to work at all!

Can anyone advise me what route to take please?

I don't want to let this get out of control but don't know how to deal with it.

Thank you in advance.
