Capital Resolve letter RE:RLP TXMAXX not me - wrong address

A letter from Capital Resolve ( on behalf of TK MAXX) arrived, not addressed to me.

 

 

When first moved here I regularly received letters and visits from bailiffs and police for people who are using my address fraudulently.

 

 

In the past, I sometimes sent the correspondence back to the sender,

a few I ignored,

sometimes I called the various companies, and more than once had to explain to whoever came knocking on the door etc.

 

 

However, after a particularly bad experience in the past with an enforcer from Marston (I posted here about it and got help!),

I am cautious about just sending back closed envelopes or calling the company, giving my name etc .

 

 

How can I nip this in the bud?

Short answer is to move house !

 

Longer answer is that if people have used the address for various reasons e.g credit applications, criminal activities, it is going to take a very long time to shake this off. There are just too many debt chasing companies out there and few companies wishing to write off their accounts. I let a relative who moved abroad use my address for forwarding purposes, as many UK Banks won't send statements abroad. What i did not know is that they did not pay a number of accounts because they disputed amounts. I then had years of letters throught the post, phone calls to my landline and even a doorstep visit by a collector. I complained to one debt company and received compensation and eventually they all gave up. But it took about 4 years i think.

 

There is no magic letter or any official body that you can complain to who will make it stop. If there is, i never found the information.

I am not sure...it just says 'settlement offer'. The address and phone number are for Capital Resolve.

Best not to get involved or incur any costs in making phone calls or sending letters. Just return to sender, marking the letter 'not at this address'.

 

I wonder whether Royal Mail have any process in place where you can ask them not to deliver post to your address not in your name. I.e they automatically return it.

 

If you have not done so recently, it might be worth checking your credit record using of the free services e.g Noodle or Clearscore, just to make sure you on not being linked.

i beleive they do since being a postman io have had instructions not to deliver certain addressed mail to an address i would think your first port of call would be customer services and see what the next step is

Does it say so on the letter?

This is just retail loss prevention. The person concerned or someone giving that name has been stopped by TKmaxx security and they get companies to write out asking for money to cover their costs. It never gets anywhere, other than a few letters.

 

You are never going to stop companies writing to your address, if it has been given out by people. Yes you can write to companies and they might stop. But the matter is then passed on to a different company and they write to your address. It is a never ending circle, until a company decides to write it off, which could take years.

 

If you feel better dealing with each letter that comes through the door that is up to you, but you may never get your costs (postage/phone calls) and time back. And you will get companies believing that you or someone who lives with you are the person who owes them money and you are just lying about the situation. It then becomes more frustrating.

 

My advice is just to return to sender with envelope marked that the person does not live at the address. But keep an eye on what is recieved. I used to open envelopes carefully to check what letters said and then to sellotape them back up before returning most of them.

That's why I missed this.

 

RLP and TKMaxx do not get involved with court cases. These letters can sagely be ignored, mainly because it isn't you. I would just check your credit file to be certain there is no link to your address.

No bailiffs will come over this and no debt collector will visit.

 

All I would do is keep any documents showing that you live there now and proof of ID in case other visitors try it on. Never let a bailiff inside your home and if you hve to leave them at the door, close and lock it. There are a few rogue bailiffs out there who will try it on.
