Hi,

Morning everyone, it's finally the weekend!

I am looking for some advice regarding this upcoming benefit cap as I want to know if I am going to be affected as I claim Universal Credit.

I am single, 29, I live in Burnley, Lancashire, North West and I live in a 1 bedroom flat with an housing association and my weekly rent is £80.62. My Universal Credit payments is as follows:

1. Standard Allowance for me: £317.82

2. Housing Element: £352.56

So, by going of this, will I be affected? I am just worried! Any advice / help would be great, cheers.

As you live outside central London your cap based on the information you have given (based on the caps as of Autumn 2016 on the gov website)

£257.69 per week (£13,400 a year) if you’re single and you don’t have children, or your children don’t live with you

If those figures you have given are the monthly amounts you will receive then you would have a benefit income of £154.70 pw which is well inside the cap for a person in your situation.

Hope this helps

On the basis of the figures you supplied and the information given on the gov website, you should be under the cap limit so should not be affected

However, if there is additional income above what you have stated then this also has to be taken into account. But if the figures you quoted are your entire income then the cap should not be a problem for you.

I work it out as £8044.56 based upon 12 months UC at your current rate... So you are well under :)

Stop worrying and go enjoy the weekend
