So if I called the council's automated payment line they can't refuse the payment?

Yes some-one said that Capita are involved in the background of the council.

No I got the names of the CEO from their website it was: Gill Steward but I didn't have her direct email just the [email protected]

In that case there has been a recent change but the contact details will follow a similar pattern so should be [email protected] - the site software will insert a space somewhere just make sure you remove it to use

I still haven't heard anything from either of my complaints to Equita.

Bexley council have acknowledged receipt of my complaint but not yet responded.

I have now transferred a payment directly to Equita's bank account, so far it hasn't been returned...

So what happened when you tried to pay the council ?

DO NOT PAY UPFRONT FEES TO COLD CALLERS PROMISING TO WRITE OFF YOUR DEBTS

DO NOT PAY UPFRONT FEES FOR COSTLY TELEPHONE CONSULTATIONS WITH SO CALLED "EXPERTS" THEY INVARIABLY ARE NOTHING OF THE SORT

BEWARE OF QUICK FIX DEBT SOLUTIONS, IF IT LOOKS LIKE IT IS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT INVARIABLY IS

They said that I can't pay them directly as it has to go through Equita

Yes I was affraid that was going to be the situation.

Now that you have made a payment to them, you may want to try again and make that payment arrangment, you may find that now you have demonstrated you are willing to pay you get a better response(hopefully).

The council might refuse payment, depending on how you try to pay them directly, in your case they did. As mentioned earlier in the thread, it would be passed on to Equita in most cases anyway.

Right back in post 11 you stated your willingness to pay the debt with enforcement fees, and in post 12 I stated this was absolutely fine if that is what you wanted to do. Given that is the situation, it's bizarre 50 posts later to still be discussing problems with making a payment.

The main thing is you have made a payment now - you were always willing to pay, so hopefully they will be more reasonable now.

It's a crazy situation where someone wants to pay the bill, including bailiff fees, but is having difficulty making any payment at all. I hope this works out for you.

Great result. Looks like the council complaint helped because I got a letter today saying that the arrangement is being reinstated and that their office does not apply for commits proceedings and they are sorry if I felt mislead in that way....they would have posted that before the payment went through so I think the council told them to let me pay that way.

TY BA ..They say the older you get the wiser you get, well I now have 70 years of wisdom to call on, so perhaps instead of being referred to as an old fool I can now be seen as a wise old fool!!

Yes indeed.

Without wanting to rain on the parade.

Please remember that this is an accommodation by the bailff it is not an agreement. If you miss a payment, even by a day they will undoubtedly add ther extra fees and you will be at square one again.
