I purchase a dash cam, December 2015 (7 months ago)

 

Before fitting in the car I read all of the instruction to

activate it, one of the last things I did was to put in the

correct date and time, the camera works fine great picture

no problem.

 

However when I took out the SD card to have a look at the

recording, I noticed that all the dates and times were the

same after recording for 6 months, (which if I did have an

accident could be a problem). It reverts to the settings put in

by the manufactures, when the engine is turned off.

 

I also noticed that the battery had no charge in it even after

driving 200 miles.

 

I phoned the manufactures technical department, they explained

that it has a faulty battery, which is causing the problem with the

date and time. They said I should take it back to the place of purchase.

 

What I would like to know is, how long is a manufactures warrant,

and is the supplier responsible for its repair, or the manufacturer?

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 it has to be of satisfactory quality for a reasonable period of time. I would have thought that the battery would have to last at least a couple of years – or more.

 

Don't worry about the manufacturers warranty. It's all about your statutory protection in the end. Who is liable? The supplier. Always the supplier. Often they try to fob you off onto the manufacturer – but it is always the supplier's liability and they cannot escape it regardless of what the contract says

I took the Dash-Cam back to the store I purchased it from, they were brilliant I explained that I could not be sure

of the date I purchased it sometime in December 2015. I also told them that I could not find the receipt, nor would

there be a record of it on my Bank Statement as I paid cash.

 

They said hold on for 10 minutes went off and found all the details, of the cam, they sent it back to the manufactures

for me I received it today, after they phoned me to say it was back, and a fault was found in it, which has been sorted

out and they have even up-graded the web-cam for free.

 

The shop staff were really helpful I can’t fault them. The store has I know received some bad reports about its customer

service, I have to take it as I found it, and can’t fault them.

thats good. they decided to comply with the eu friendly Con Rights Act. with a gratis upgrade (though maybe the required upgrade corrected the fault).
