After a two-year investigation, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has published a series of recommendations for the energy market, including a cap on how much prepayment meters can charge.

The watchdog has unveiled a package of 30 measures it claims will help drive costs down by increasing competition between suppliers and helping more people switch.

Key changes are:

A temporary price cap on prepaid tariffs.

Opening up customer databases to rival firms.

Removal of the 'four-tariff rule'.
