Hi all,

I need some advice regarding the world of car insurance & "no claims bonus"

My Girlfriend was with Direct Line and should have about 6 years No Claims Bonus.

Unfortunately due to a bit of financial difficulty, her Direct Debit failed with them & Direct Line cancelled the policy.

This was 6mths ago, in that time frame the car was SORN her circumstances have changed and finances have come back on track, and she's has been told by Direct Line that due to the failed DD, Cancelled Policy and the 6mths lapse of insurance, they will only confirm 1 years NCB.

My Questions are:

Can they do this?

If NO what can we (probably I as I enjoy a good fight -- Oh Advantage how I miss you) do to get confirmation of the 6yrs NCB.

By having the 6 yr confirmed makes a £300 difference in price.

Thanks for reading.

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

Sounds a bit odd. When you take out Insurance, you have to send in no claim proof from previous Insurers. The new Insurers then add to this.

No claims discount proof is usually valid for up to 2 years, where you don't have Insurance for a period. Having a 6 month period without Insurance would not reduce 6 years to 1 year.

Suggest she finds out from Direct Line complaints why they are doing this. Any new Insurers are only going to accept no claims proof from Direct Line as her last Insurers.

We could do with some help from you.

Thought as much - will get intouch with them this week, if they do not budge - who is the best to escalate to is it Trading Standards or is there an ombudsman which covers this?

thanks

FOS deals with complaints, but after 2 months or final letter from Direct Line saying they won't budge.

The only thing i can think of, are situations where the previous no claims was foreign or business related, where they have not had private UK car no claims for 6 years. They then don't continue for a full year and as a result Direct Line have dropped it to 1 year because it has to be a full year before they convert it fully,
