DWP want Bank Statements

The DWP can access your bank accounts anyway if they want to,if I was you I wouldn't worry about going to prison,at the end of the day they will look for any overpayment back its not in their interest to jail people unless its a real big fraud

I really appreciate the replies and just an update I've still not received the letter yet from the DWP and it was a week on Wednesday 23 March that they phoned me up.

Anything DWP is posted 2nd class and takes forever, give it 2 weeks to arrive

If they are ringing and asking for the info it's probably not a fraud investigation & is most likely compliance dealing with it.

I received the letter this morning from the DWP and have until the 29th April to send my bank statements (3 months) to them.

that's ok,if they were after you and had put it up to a fraud case they wouldn't be asking you for bank statements,they would have accessed them anyway by now,just relax and send them what they want,you might owe a few quid you might not,as I said they usually just want any overpayment back

Since I posted about this a few weeks ago now I've still not heard anything back from the DWP and would it be worth giving them a ring or wait a bit longer re my bank statements?

In my experience with anything to do with DWP it can take forever. Personally i would leave it a bit longer

Now that everything has to go through the Wolverhampton mail handling centre, I'd be inclined to double that estimate and then add another four weeks on.

 

louise2012: As long as you retained copies of the documents and got a receipt of posting from the Post Office, you have done all you can. Just sit back and try not to worry about it.

I received a letter today from the DWP and have to repay the amount I have overpaid. However, how do they get the money as the matter has been referred to a debt management company as well as a £50 fine.

no doubt your friendly debt management company will be in touch,there should b something coming in the post to tell you how to pay,gives you several options

Since writing the post a few weeks ago I have not heard anything from the debt management company. Also when re-reading the letter there is a telephone number on there and wondering if I have to contact them?

I have contacted debt management company and now have paid the overpayment but how long do the dwp keep bank statements for as I posted them back in April and not had them back yet.

 

Also I stopped claiming JSA in June as I started a temp job.

What was the reason of your overpayment? Was it to do with savings or undeclared income? There are bits and pieces of this thread that I don't understand.

It was undeclared income as they wanted my bank statements.

well you ignore and never pay a DCA

if you owe

you pay DWP.

never ever pay a DCA on a Gov't debt.
