Hi

any of you know anything about Digital cameras please?

I have a Fujifilm 14 meg camera, yesterday for some reason the front bit got stuck inside the actual camera, this is the bit that normally comes out when you put the camera on so you can see what you are taking a picture of.

I now get the message turn camera off then on again but nothing happens, I can hear it trying to come out but it seems stuck!

Does it mean a new camera? I have had no problems with it before this and is a good camera

TIA XX

Sandy

If you've ensured the batteries aren't the problem, then it sounds like a mechanical failure (motor, or something 'sticking').

How old is it? (your rights under the Sale of Goods Act [against the retailer] are in addition to any warranty the manufacturer might offer).

Not batteries as it has a charger, I think it is about 2/3 years old. I bought it from Tesco in Ely Cambridgeshire when I lived there , not sure if still got the receipt but can have a look x

It may be worth having a word with ACS over in Watton. I have used them in the past and found them very good. However, you may find it cheaper to buy a replacement camera rather than getting the old one repaired.

doesn't hurt to give it a sharp tap on a hard surface

usually these issues are caused by a grain of sand or something in the cogs.

you can also gently twist the various stages of the telescope lenses

quite a common problem

There must be a motor that drives it in and out.

Can you hear the motor spinning trying to move it out? If you can then the motor isn't faulty.

You'll then need to look into what is stopping the lens from moving. Is there something you can see on the outside that is stopping the lens from moving out, is it offset from the hole it comes out through?

If you can't resolve the issue from the above then the problem is likely to be internal to the camera. If you aren't happy to take it apart to have a look then you would need to take it to a repair centre, or replace it.

thank you everyone, yes I can hear it trying to open and I can not see anything stopping it

Does the motor sound like it is struggling? if so then something is blocking it from coming out, if not then it is likely to be a problem with the cogs. They could be blocked, as Dx says above, they might not be meeting correctly and not turning the lens mechanism, or they could be sheared and will need replacing.

You could try blowing sharply into that area of the bodywork to dislodge any dust, or as Dx says try jolting it sharply or manually pulling the lens out.

If they fail then you'll likely need to open it up.

yes it souns like it is struggling, I can hear it, it clicks and whirls

it has a shutter that covers the lens that is open atm, that stopped working a long time ago, when I turn the camera on it makes a whirling noise and clicks like it is opening but nothing happens, then a message appears saying turn off the camera and turn on again

at the end of the day the repair bill by a specialist will prob be more than the camera is worth today.

are all the section locked down tight

or is there any that are slightly out that can be rotated with a bit of force back and forth slightly?

another trick is an air compressor with the football inflator 'spike'

they seem to be " locked" as tried rotating it but not able to. I have no idea what happened to it as it is always in a case.

It seems like it wants to pop out but nothing happens, shame as takes lovely photo's. I am glad nothing is on the memory card as I recently took photo's of it x

Don't mention the lens shutter stopped working ages ago or having dropped the camera. It has just stopped functioning and under SOGA Tesco are responsible for dealing with products that fail, before the product has reached an appropriate lifespan.

Any mention of previous issues will beg the question as to whether you have looked after the product properly and got things fixed to stop other problems happening.

We could do with some help from you.

Don't think It'll matter what store you take it into,(well as long as it's not Asda) they should all be able to deal with the problem :)
